I want to buy ADSL modem for BSNL broadband connection. Can anyone give me suggestion for the best price. I saw on Ebay but I am a little confused.

Ebay prices:
TP-LINK ADSL2+ Router(MODEM) TD-8840 – 3yrs warnty Rs.1450
450TC1 Wifi Wireless Modem + Router DSL ADSL 2+ 4 lan Rs.1525
EP-2701HG EDUP ADSL 54Mbps 4Port Wireless Modem Router WiFi B/G Rs.1600
BATON ROUTER MODEM ADSL2+ BSNL MTNL AIRTEL DSL ethernet LAN USB Rs.1489
ADSL2+ Modem with WiFi Router(brand not specified) Rs.1500

I have 5% coupon and that may reduce the price a little. Can anyone tell if there is any better price at other sites? I have been searching in some known sites but am not finding any better prices.
Is brand important for these kind of modems? If yes, plz let me know which brands are preferred.
There are some used modems which are available for around 850-1200 depending on brand. Please tell whether they are worth buying.

Thanks very much in advance..

Thanks coolnessp..
I live in a town and not many adsl modems are available here. The best I could get was the BSNL employees selling one for Rs.2000 unofficially. It’s just written BSNL on it without any other brand name. I’ve heard that wifi with it is having some problems but I’m not sure. So thought of buying online. I’d be using it for a max 6-8 months, after which I have to move to another place for my project work. So I want something that can work well for 6-8 months without problem and would do good if it’s cheaper. I cannot imagine taking BSNL connection in other places if normal cable internet is available (ADSL modem/router may not be useful for those connections). So I guess buying online is the best option for me at some low price.
I’d be grateful if you can tell me the best option depending on my need. Thanks

are you sure you will always be on adsl and never move to a city where you might use a cable broadband?

If answer is yes then go for an adsl2 + router combo (netgear and dlink). I am aware just of the dlink 2730.

If the answer to above is NO/unsure,

then go for a separate router and a separate modem (This can be used also for your current requirement for bsnl. adsl modem separate + router separate. Its really upto you)

heres the whole list but pls be careful while choosing from the list as some are just routers and not modem-router combos

the other ones you mentioned are probably all china imports and rebranded in India. How those work, well your guess is as good as mine. Something what bata is doing. they have stopped manufacturing and are only importing and re-branding it in India.

Hi Aqua.. You can also buy Buffalo N150 wifi router, which also has modem. Here’s the link:

It costs around 2.5k and is very easy to setup and use.

Thanks coolnessp and maverick81 for your suggestions. I’ve decided to buy Dlink which I think is the best choice as of now. Thought of TP-Link, but as you informed that they are like china made, I’ve given up that option.
