yeah tikona wont make it
i ahve heard of bad service from tikona so wil skip it
i think i should go for buying a data card of micromax or huweai
and go for a 3g plan
but what plan i dont know what carrier i dont know
I’m not from Mumbai but I would like to share few things
Buy a 3g data card , many purchase Huawei 7.2mbps modems like e173 , e1731 for 1200-1300rs from eBay with seller warranty …micromax data cards @ 1700rs ….avoid buying evdo data cards like reliance net plus/photon plus / mmblaze as they are not worthy ….3g tariff and evdo tariff almost same expect bsnl evdo which offers true unlimited at 750rs, looks tempting but I heard service is poor from bsnl ..
I heard mtnl 3g offers reasonable plans @ Mumbai , what will be your monthly usage ? try to get mtnl sim or airtel or any other operator sim and recharge small 3g data pack like 100 mb plan for checking signal strength and speeds before recharging higher packs
its wireless internet , signal strength/speed may be good at one place and may not be good at other place so recharge small packs and check speeds /signal strength on mobile/datacard

Dont you have BSNL EVDO there
@ insatiable
Every 3G operator will give DEMO at your home on request, i’m not sure about MTNL &BSNL though….your brother in law can just walk into a airtel/idea/vodafone store give them his address and plan for a demo….he can check speeds/signal strength…we have 2100 MHz frequency band for 3G in india as a result 3G signals are not good in indoors.
Prepaid plans .
1) I checked mtnl 3g mumbai site, they don’t have any 5-7 GB plans/monthly…next best plans are
a)3G1200 : 15GB (one month validity)
b)3G2500 : unlimited ( 2 months validity) i don’t know whether it’s unlimited with FUP or true unlimited.
2) Bsnl 3G : 5GB for 750rs (30 days) and 10GB for 1099rs ( 30days)…i think you don’t have bsnl @mumbai – only mtnl & cannot get bsnl sim , but i heard bsnl uses mtnl network…but you can get bsnl sim from other parts of maharastra and use it in mumbai…no roaming cost.
3) Idea 3G : 6GB for 850rs (30 days) and 10Gb for 1250rs ( 30 days)…this may suit you.
4) Airtel 3G : 4GB for 750rs (30 days) and 10GB for 1500rs (30days)….costly
5) Aircel 3G : do you have aircel 3G @maharastra ?…..697rs/5GB/30days and 997rs/10GB/30days
6) vodafone 3G out of the race, 850rs/3GB/60days and 1250rs/5GB/60days……no idea about docomo 3g.
Idea & vodafone may reduce 3G tariff in coming weeks.
Mtnl & idea 3G plans may suit ONLY IF YOU HAVE PROPER 3G signal…..and also speed may depend on number of factors like network congestion/low signal strength, btw i use 997/10GB plan on aircel 3G…..
thank u so so much for the time and research
very helpful
guys pls suggest
