Cordless phones can run on any 3.6v(1.2+1.2+1.2) battery. The problem with these batteries is that they cannot show the level of charge they hold so you will always either over charge them or under charge them thus damaging the battery life. The price of batteries on ebay can vary from 100 to 1000. If you buy it from your nearest hardware store, you can get one for 50 rupees.

My cordless runs on two 1.2v 2/3 AAA size batteries which are not available in local store.

This is a 2/3 AAA battery. It uses three cells rated at 1.2v each making 3.6v in total. If you want two cells(2.4v) then you’ll have to strip down its cover and remove one cell. Take those 2 cells and re-dolder wires keeping polarity in check. It will take around five minutes.
