No customs if your friend gets it. Just ask him to open the package and carry the phone with him.
The phone is definitely worth 3500-4000.
you may have to try a couple of times to get the un-lock code. last time it costed 46$ (phone+S&H+Import) through PPO, PPO now has only NJ address. so no way to skip 3$ shipping
but off-lately i find BLU WIN HD LTE more compelling than this @ 4,750 Inr you get LTE Dual sim and warranty (at least for namesake)

hmm.. my bad , confused shipping and tax, even on feb 1st they did not charge shipping but tax was charged. also this time only one item per customer implemented, so this time total landing cost must be 51$ – 53$. they have offloaded this model completely from ebay since last sale even at regular price.

no actual 4g will not work, but the phone will show even 3g as 4g because in US att was able to achive 30+ mbps even in those band
you will have to flash the phone with Tmobile Rom to get band 12 , but in india none of the 4g band is useful so just take it as no real 4G/LTE option, though the sim card works but not the data.
