Automatic scooter recommendation

Hi guys,

I’m working in Bangalore currently and the traffic here is horrendous. Although my workplace is just 2.5 kms away from home, it takes 30-40 mins to reach office in company provided cab. Some of my colleagues have switched to gearless scooters for their versatile nature plus it is easier to use a scooter for errands instead of taking my car out. I have ridden many motorcycle’s in the past but never tried a scooter before. I would like to know how difficult it is for a person who is used to riding geared motorcycle to adjust to a gear less scooter.

I would appreciate if you guys could recommend a scooter.Would prefer a scooter that suits tall and well built guy( 6 feet ,90 kgs)

Thanks

go with Activa 125, I too bought recently after disposing CBZ and activa. Much better ride and comfort.

Bicycle is good option but not recommended on Bangalore road which are full of smoke, dust and polluted.

If you are looking for scooter with better suspension than have a look at aviator. Every thing is same as activa but different design. As you are 6 feet tall you will find it comfortable to ride & it have better suspension on front wheel (back wheel suspension is terrible compared to bikes).
P. S own one from last September.
I would like to share my experience here.
I was using passion pro bike earlier. So my experience will be based on that.
When I first took a ride on aviator it was much better in smoothness, noise levels & better pick up as compared to my bike.
But whenever I tired to cross a bump or a pathhole my hole body use to shake even though it was on 30 kmph speed. Scooter body is made of either plastic or fibre so it’s fragile compared to bikes. It’s stock horn sound is pathetic compared to stock horns of my bike. If you don’t use your scooter for more than a day than you need to use chock with self for starting it but if you don’t use it for 3 days than you you will have to use chalk and start it manually by kick self won’t work there.

I am having Suzuki Access 125. My Height is 5.10 and I face problem in legs due to less/small foot area in this scooter..Scooter is Smooth, Average is Poor, But I guess such scooters are designed for Girls only. I bought and using Mahindra Centuro Bike Now…

having a tvs scooty , tvs jupiter , tcs wego , 2 honda activas and a meastro in my house I guess I am the best person to answer op’s query

in my opinion honda activa should be your best choice considering your stature [ have heard positive things about the new aviator as well but cannot comment as I don’t have any personal first hand experience with it ]

in case you are reluctant to go with an honda wego,/jupiter should be your next choice [ i would prefer wego over jupiter though but you should test drive both of them yourself to know which one suits you better ]

Thanks a lot for your review. KG given.

I’m glad to know that it won’t be a big deal to switch to a scooter from Motorcycle.

Honda activa seems to be first choice among scooter buyers. I’m reluctant to buy Activa for 2 reasons. The suspension on 110cc Activa seems to be poor and secondly, the attitude of Honda dealership sucks big time. I have owned a Honda for 6 years and i know how bad their customer service is. As a matter of principle, i’m never going to spend any money on a company that takes their customers for granted.

BTW, I stay in BTM layout stage 1

Perfect activa’s front suspension is poor and also I recently visited Honda dealer and their attitude was like they are favoring us for buying activa as if they are giving it without any profits. https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_evil.gif
I do own old activa but trust me its braking is very poor and also average is too less. I hope Jupiter does work for long time if I buy it.

My personal opinion would be to go with Jupiter. Having all 3 of these in my family. Activa’s front suspension is very poor and also handling becomes very poor after 2-3 years. The main reason for poor handling is the rod (chimta) used which bends and thus causes issues.
Maestro is very bulky and has the same issue with front suspension (AFAIK engine in Maestro and activa is same)
When it comes to mileage all the scooters more or less have the same average. When it comes to after sales service IMO TVS wins the race. Also i experienced that maintenance cost in activa is much high compared to other two

You should either go for Jupiter /for Activa,
Jupiter has more features compared to activa,
like low fuel indicator,charging port,etc…
i have driven both the Scooter,
i loved Jupiter!

but will suggest you to have a test drive,

That front suspension issue is solved in Edge version as I can read from online reviews
Service from Hero is no issue, I already have one Hero vehicle
Engine that powers Maestro Edge is different from Activa, it is developed by Hero Moto foto itself

Much confused 😅

Didn’t buy one. After taking a few test rides, i wasn’t really impressed with these new age scooters. I felt the braking and comfort level of scooters are abysmal compared to a motorcycle. Back to Uber for office commute.

Yes finding various key holes at night can sometimes be very difficult indeed.

UPDATE : Bought TVS jupiter in Matt grey.

After test riding multiple scooters did not like any of them including Activa however Jupiter felt a little different from the rest of them. Suspension was very plush and i enjoyed the super smooth engine.

Getting the delivery tomorrow

So i got the delivery of my scooter today. Everything went well except some minor confusions regarding documentation. I just need some advice from Dimers who has recently bought any new vehicles from Bangalore . I have only received my motorcycle with a temp number with insurance. They gave me some booking receipt also. As per the showroom guy, it takes nearly 10-15 days to get a permanent number and another 90 days for RC book. Is it true? I have always received invoices for my vehicle purchases in the past but did not receive one this time. Sales guy says that invoice is required for RTO registration and he will hand it over later. The showroom is question is supposedly one of the largest TVS dealers in South india.

Strange. I always thought it is mandatory to have the invoice, road tax paid receipt and insurance to take delivery (unless you have explicitly taken a TC to get your vehicle registered elsewhere) in Bangalore.

I have not bought any bike/car recently, but for my last purchase, everything was online and registration number got allotted through the online system immediately on application submission and the same was issued the same evening.

RC card takes time and it will come by courier/speedpost within 1 month typically and until then, you need to use the road tax paid receipt as proof.

I find it suspicious when they say, they have submitted the invoice for registration and you have to wait for days for the regn number.

Hope they are not pushing you a test drive vehicle (which generally has a TC) and get it registered later to your name. Do check.
