Avoid Aadhaar at all costs
I know some of the people are in support of cashless economy but it needs to be done in a planned and systematic way and not just forced overnight as what’s happening now
If we don’t agree to any XYZ political parties ideology then what’s the problem we live a democratic country and everyone has right to own opinion
Check few comments you will realize some are interested in politics not on problems .
In India ppl do politics more rather than solving and discussing an issue , which results issue never ends and so on politics too never end .
many intellectuals say why to blame any Govt for the mess it has been creating…. and we should be careful etc.
its the govt who brings out these n number of cards and then forces us to use it. why do these mobile operators prefer only aadhar as proof….
UPA had introduced this bogus aadhar card to which the great grand BJP opposed and said we will scrap it…. so what happened to that… how to trust these thugs who have been robbing the common man time and again in the name of fake nationalism and patriotism….
Now in this thread where point of nationalism or patriotism came ? Now who is hitting this point here ? And why ? Using aadhar or not using aadhar is no where related to these .
@Stupendous Man
Scary food for thought. Thank for posting. I need to read it in greater detail
I’m just wondering though, whether the person actually knows what he’s taking about when he says that “1 in 121 biometrics will accidentally match someone”. Is it because of the way the data is captured and matched in the Aadhaar system? Because otherwise, fingerprint (almost) uniqueness would not have been used worldwide as a means of identifying people. And in the case of Aadhaar it’s the fingerprint + iris scan. So the false matches must be because of the way the data is captured and matched. 1 in 121 is just too high. Are our software systems really that bad?
The data was accumulated and derived by UIDAI themselves and still they went ahead with it. Clearly shows how less they cared about citizen’s safety. There are various reasons why that would happen. As mentioned in my post Aadhaar depends upon two measures ‘biometrics’ and ‘manual’. Two person looking alike will pass through the manual verification. Biometrics scan is not available everywhere and where it is has only one, most likely fingerprint. The data was mathematically derived depending upon how close the two can match. Even with iris scanner the permutation remains the same.
Government gears up to facilitate Aadhar based financial transactions through mobile phone

how someone can copy fingerprints and use it in bank??? please give more explaination on this. i think biometric is best if it includes fingerprint validation for online too using finger print scanner.
The more unauthorised places you use your prints the more open you are open to ID theft. One can even pick your fingerprints from your mobile phone.
Many countries have the requirement of some form of Mandatory unique identifier for the purpose of social security benefits. In India, presently there are multiple different identifiers, each mandated by a different Govt authority. If you earn income beyond a certain level, you need to pay tax. For which, you must have PAN card (from IT Dept). If you want to exercise your voting rights, you need to have a Voter Card (from Election Commission). If you are in service and have PF, you need to have a UAN Card (from EPFO). Adhaar was developed with the objective of removing he need for all these multiple cards and move towards an unique number. The problem is not with Adhaar per se but with the way it is being implemented.
The Adhaar database should be secured. But right now, several private operators and even small time persons have been given authorisation to function as local service providers. They get in their hand a huge database of information which could be utilised wrongly. The recent demonetisaiton has forced Govt to accept this fact and both IT dept and RBI are looking into the possibility of misuse of identity through these local service providers in remote locations to open Jan Dhan Accounts in false names and convert black money into white.
The standard verification process involves Biometric+Email or OTP+Email. Every time the Adhaar database is accessed for verification, either through Biometric or for OTP, a Email is sent to the registered mail ID also. Ideally, it should be a 2 factor authentication i.e. Biometric+OTP but right now it is single factor. Sooner or later, it need to move to two factor authentication.
Anyone who thinks that they are living in an island in this age is living in a fool’s paradise. Linkage of Bank account and credit cards with PAN, mobile number and Email have been done ages ago. UAN+Bank Account+PAN seeding is already complete. Through online filing of returns, PAN is linked with email and mobile number. Through mandatory online verification, UAN is linked with Email and mobile number. All your e-wallets also are linked to Email and mobile numbers. Every single online transaction that you do using your credit or debit card further adds to these linkages. Every time you use a card to load money to a wallet, if the registered Email/mobile numbers are different, the two get cross referenced into the linked data base.
So whether you take Adhaar number or not, Big Brother is already watching you.
The only exception are those who do not have any online presence, do not have a bank account and function exclusively in cash. The demonetisaiton is to bring them into the system.
The problem lies that Aadhaar requires your biometrics and unlike PAN or DL will render you invalid and what you have. US SSN doesn’t require biometrics and UK voted against it 10 years back. When such low corruption and high digital penetration countries are not ready for cashless life and biometrics ID do you really think we are? Even with 2 step authentication the chances of duplicate authorisation are high.
I don’t know whether I am talking to the same person.
Post written by aam admi party…. Utter bs….
aadhar now mandatory for senior citizens to get rail concession. kuch din baad saans lene ke pehle bhi aadhar dikhana padega kya?
sabka aadhar hi hoga…. yeh card
I myself used an edited Farzi aadhar as identity card (for a specific purpose) Just print a paper and voila.! You are someone else
Guys, Aadhar is a project started with good intentions and lots of amazing guys working behind it. Like every govt project, this one also launched before getting mature or production ready. People from bureaucracy have other priorities than working on the edge cases.
Nothing is black and white. Better to stay away from Aadhar if you are a privacy freak. It may change in future.
*
but govt says we have all black money in circulation
It’s future so live along with it
That’s the approach I am not comfortable with. If gov wants to make it the future they have to make it fail proof and secure it ten-x but rather they are day-dreamers.
Remember the baby who cries get the food. Don’t demand and you won’t get it. If you are not aware of the impending dangers and take precautions then you will be sitting helplessly wishing that something could have been done when there was time.
Simple, avoid using Aadhar Card as much as we can.
It will upgrade when something wrong will happen in future. Waiting for an upgraded Aadhar.
An article from someone who has worked on biometric IDs and his view on Aadhaar

What some of us here are not able to see is the supremacy of it and that’s the only problem with it.

Firstly just specify me from where you got this cool name?

Railways forces mandatory Aadhaar for availing senior citizen discount

SC earlier shut down attempt to make Aadhaar mandatory for scholarships

But now SC has decided to side with the Gov by staying silent and not hearing the pending PIL against the validity of mandatory nature of Aadhaar as projected by the Modi Gov.
Samsung Galaxy S8 and in Samsung Pay i think so.
The simplest and MOST IMPORTANT step one should take now is to do this:
http://gadgets.ndtv.com/internet/features/how-t...
https://resident.uidai.net.in/biometri...ck
That is to LOCK your Biometrics Information for ANY VERIFICATION! That means no one (even UIDAI) (as said by them cant confirm though) can use your stored biometrics for ANY VERIFICATION/Authentication WHATSOVER, until obviously you unlock it online.
By doing this your Aadhar would now be just like any other Number based ID Card.
We talk about technology yet majority of us are unfamiliar with it. My parents can’t even use an android phone more than making calls, learning how to store a number was a uphill task for them.
Quoting the para from the news article which reflects one of my concerns behind making this thread—
“However, there have been a couple of cases where people have claimed misuse of Aadhaar biometric authentication. People who haven’t used their Aadhaar card for a while have received an email from UIDAI stating that their data has been accessed via biometric authentication. This is obviously quite alarming.”
Now, Aadhaar being bio-metrically verified how is that possible? This itself shows that its not a foolproof ID. The chances of duplicity is quite big(as accepted by UDAI itself).
The article about IRCTC and Aadhaar is bogus. Delete it, it is just speculation and can’t be considered information.
Read IRCTC’s announcement to making it mandatory from 1st April 2017. It’s not bogus.
A fresh News article of dangers of Aadhaar…do read it covers some more concerns

Still Niti Ayog wants to eliminate plastic card and POS and replace it with Aadhaar based payment methods.
they will only realize once mass scale frauds start happening
the topic was demonitisation only which lead to arguments and then escalating
