Every Startup is here to Succeed in coming years, Amazon Flipkart, Snapdeal, BB, Grofers, Zopnow, Ola, Uber and everyone else are burning Cash to dominate the untapped market that India Is.

They are pleasing and Acquiring Customers now. One day only 1 or 2 will dominate the Groceries market or E-Commerce market. Just Like Google Dominating Search Engine.

People in India will go to next stop if the item is cheaper there but What about the Service? Big basket and grofers delivery the product at home very next day in most cases. Amazon, Flipkart and snapdeal have options to get some products same day or next day, You get the Product at discounted price not to forget.

There are People in India that Consider service too. The Mentality will soon change as time will pass. I think Big basket and Amazon will dominate their market. Big Basket may have a Strong Competitor if Amazon Now decides to go nationwide.

Local stores don’t provide 200 off on 1000 or even cashbacks. They will ask you for that 1 rupee as well.

I agree the prices are higher for SOME items though.

Forgetting candies as currency while change required to be returned!?

That it is what they are charging extra 5-10 rs and they provides Wallet offers , become same .. I only order if prices lower than Dmart Calculations only . Grofers stopped Offers like 15% + 10% CB .. That was good .. Nothing more now .:(

Do you have set metrices to confirm that the quality of sugar at 47 is exactly the same as that sold for Rs. 37?

i agree to op on this point but not for all items .

few important points -

they have their own brand BB Value & BB Royal which they pack themselves (outsourcing) and sell , but people who say packed goods are always best , really leave your grocery shopping to your mom only . bb packed items are not as good as other brands packed items , but prices are almost same .
it is (modern) indian mentality that they think packed good are always best , due to this mentality now small shops do pack dals, rice, sugar and sell at higher cost , there is no strictness on packing rule in india , rules are there but no one follows . so charging bcoz of only packing is not cool .

2nd thing , in south delhi bigbasket dont know how to ship frozen items , dont know how this goes in other cities . but here they pack in normal box with 4-5 blue bottles , this type of packing is ok for butter or normal cool items (4’ C + temeprature) but not suitable for frozen items (less than 4’C) , and seems they do pack frozen items 3-5 hours before shipping , all the times i got as puffed cheese (mozerella) , frozen corn lost their coating , and those fools say keep in freezer it will become frozen again . have you ever read info on packing or called cc , they clearly says 99% frozen items once melted or thawed cant be used for long you have to use within 2-3 days .

also if any dimers still use thawed items again and again by putting in freezer , you really dont know what you doing , in case of cheese if you put amul mozerella cheese out of freezer for 5-6 hours then you must use it within hours , same for other frozen items (mentioned in back of items too) . for these items take out only needed quantity from freezer and rest put back in freezer , even some cheese manufacturer says once open the seal of cheese use that within 14-21 days (even if you keep that in freezer all the times) .

3rd thing – BB veggies and fruits qulaity are most of times unriped and B Grade . and if you will order fresho pizza topping you can notice smell in that , so never ever order cut fruits and veggies , they dont know rule to pack these things at all .

but still can say BB is good for other brands items and normal grocery items as prices are ok and with discounts cheaper , best point is many time bb have items which normal market dont have .

all above points may vary to different warehouses , but normal thing is – buy frozen / chilled items in express delivery only .
and prefer not to buy fruits / veggies from big basket if qulaity is low . and for BB brand packing items compare prices , because you cant compare bb sugar with mawana / madhur etc .

I have stopped ordering from Bisbasket after a horrible episode. They supplied rotten fishes laded with chemicals although i paid 30% more than market price for the item. I don’t mind paying extra for convenience But, adulterated or rotten items are strictly unacceptable. Will not order from BB again even if they offer the items for free.

I agree with you completely. BB has no idea about technicalities involved in transporting frozen items. Considering Delhi heat, it would be unsafe to consume any meat exposed in the heat for more than 2-3 hours. From my experience, BB does not choose their suppliers on merit. I believe they give orders to the lowest bidders. I remember ordering packaged chicken breast from BB last year. Product was supplied by some company called Farm fresh and label said Chicken breast however the inside content turned out to be chicken wings. My Father in law who is a chef in Dubai was totally shocked at the lack of quality control/regulation by so called startups.

yes in fresh and frozen items those guys ignore quality , now they opened many warehouses result in rotten items when it comes to fresh and frozen category .
and yes me too from delhi so in summer season too they keep items in normal room temperature (even this is our assumption) may be storing conditions are more worse than our assumption . so now i buy only normal grocery items .

Forgot to mention – now they have too old stock too , in heinz bogo offer mfg date was quite old only 1 month left , same for impero brand cheese . but i did complaint this and asked them to replace and next day they brought all sauces of new stock however that new stock was too 5 months old . so now when they give bogo or discount offer then be aware .

Well, I have seen old stocks being sold for significant discounts in Bangalore supermarkets. Sometimes they are in BOGO sale too. I’m wondering if BB sources the items which are about to expire at significant discounts and pass it on to customers. That way they don’t have to worry about loosing money in issuing coupons/discounts. I’m just speculating. But if this is the stratergy BB is following, good luck to them surviving in Indian market for long.

PS: I miss Peppertap. Never had a bad experience with them. More than me, my mom misses them a lot. She has knee problems so she was dependent on Peppertap to deliver the items to second floor. not once they supplies rotten or expired items.

it is sure that now a days mostly they give any item on offer when item is going to expire , but as you said may be they do source such things just to sell them on offer and attracting customers , like some e-com sites buy returned and defective phone and sell them as refurbished and unboxed . but in grocery item this strategy dont work until we are sure that we can use it within the period . grocery business is not such easy task to operate , and these guys lack even basic knowledge of storing and packing .

Who is forcing you to buy from BigBasket? All items are available at local grocery stores. Why are you going to BigBasket and getting exploited?

This rice bag is available for Rs1450-1550 in the local market. But BB is charging Rs1900. I mailed them, but got dumb reply, which says their price is reasonable.
If this is their model they will eventually fail in India which is price conscious.

Did anyone force you to buy this item?

I am from Bangalore and I have been a regular customer of BigBasket since they launched in January 2012. In the beginning, they had vehicles with freezers in it and all frozen items were still frozen during delivery. After a year or two, that stopped and they started using Ice Boxes. After some bad deliveries, I stopped buying frozen stuff. Recently I tried frozen items for express delivery, that was delivered in good condition.Fish is about 30% costlier than market price. I’ve stopped buying fish/meat and restricted other frozen items. However, in general – I find BB to be cheaper and of good quality. Their customer service is excellent. I’ve never had a problem returning an item during delivery or after delivery. If an item is bad and not usable, always got a refund with a request to dispose the item.

Two of my recent experiences:

Last week, ordered a pair of Garden gloves for Rs 75. A day after it was delivered, I realized that they had delivered another brand that they were selling for Rs 40. I sent them a picture and asked them to refund the difference. Instead they gave me a 150% refund (Rs 112.5) for not delivering the item I had ordered and requested me to use the delivered item if I wanted to or dispose it.

Yesterday, I was supposed to get two pomegranates free with my order. The delivery boy said it would be delivered the next day. I knew he was bluffing, so I reported it and they gave me a refund for their selling price (Rs 67) of that item, though it was billed as Rs 0 (free) in my invoice.

I buy Spencers Cards at 5% to 10% discount, as and when they are available, from Amazon using Amazon GV, which also comes at 5% (and sometimes 10%) discount. Spencers runs discounts on various items all round the week, particularly on tuesday-thursday. They remain open till 9.30, so can go one the way home from office.
It works out much cheaper than using BB even with discount coupons.

Amazon now decides to go nationwide? They are just on pilot mode and when they put together the required infra they will go all out. Just check amazon now services in US and you will be blown away but they have limited it only to prime customers.
