Lets face it: Indians now are mostly makkar , kaam-chor , more than ever indisciplined and more than ever greedy and have always been easy going to ever replicate even a quarter of what a Japan or Germany could achieve after getting wiped out by the war.
rather than tom-tomming India as another Viet, Indonesia, Bangladesh type cheap assembly hub, if we inculcate the real industrious nature and give enough opportunities for people to work (rather than just get wasted demonstrating)

I don’t condemn either of your views but stopping relying on Chinese products would hugely bolster our economy and would be a hammer on their heads in this bad economy. Whatever be the motivation. Atleast unlike the Khangresi gov this gov is putting emphasis on manufacturing which would actually help the economy not just a political chu***pa.

also, thrifty bhai.. we got irked when a US senator or someone called Infy Wipro sweetmeat shops or something. (meaning we are just HR companies which the real software companies use to hire/ contract hire workers)

apne ko ‘value addition’ lana hoga.. even in manufacturing
if a Coca-Cola or BMW just share their raw materials or parts and we bottle or assemble and export it.. still we are doing minimal value addition and money flows out to the xyz INC outside India.
purely low cost manufacturing wala khel tou dus saal pehle hi khatam ho gaya. Productivity became the buzz word.
recollect how we lost the call centre biz to lot of Filipino or even East European guys/ Companies ?
I too really wish mera Bharat again gains self-reliance
but ‘ease of doing business’ still needs to be bettered.

Calling an Indian company a ‘sweat shop’ just shows their frustration. So Indians just more work hours without extra pay…that’s their complain? Indians putting extra hours at marginal pay while Americans indulged themselves in their ‘sins’ is what led to cheap services they enjoy right now. Americans work 5 days a week 6 hours a day (or whatever the figure was I don’t recall correctly) while Indians sweat it out 6 days a week, look slike we are more hard workers than them. Why should we bothered a bit by such benign comments by some irrelevant ‘Senators’?
WE are not just establishing assembling shops but actual production facilities in India.

making it in a country is not the same thing as value add.
a BMW gets made in say 10-12 lakhs here.. we get salaries and investment. fine
but after the Indian subsidiary exports it at 15-18 lakhs
in Eu or UK/US it is sold 65000-70000USD
we do not get the malai.. we get the burnt bhagona

pre-2000 closely spoke with people in Kalyani Group, even Baba Kalyani himself we got to interact often on campus.
while Tatas and Kalyani group (at that time) supplied near top/Intl. quality key components to Benz and all
they weren’t even given preferred vendor honour for years.

China’s growth story solely depended upon manufacturing. Khangresi gov(Nehru) declared Indian economy has ‘agrarian’ and then didn’t give a f**k about it’s growth. The succeeding Kangressians followed suit. Until they saw China’s growth who was equally poor state as us. and realised let’s do that. That’s when Kangressians changed economic focus and renamed our economy as ‘industrial’ and again didn’t give a f**k about it’s development. China neither had indigenous temperament still became one of the biggest economies in the world, until now. They have skilled engineers who have worked with and in those US/EU MNCs and investment and favourable policies. They have the know-how and as I have been watching them have been giving it’s US counterparts a tough time(atleast in the audio world). Brands like Hifiman/AudioGD/KZ are producing all kinds of audio equipments ranging from $4 to $3000 and beyond. You don’t start as a winner, you have to work your way up. Even though the major part of the monies goto outside the country, India will still get it’s fair share of profit and employments from what it contributed.
The reason Indian companies might not had get ‘preferred vendor’ tag is because India as a brand is not so popular outside. If someone notices that Mercs/BMWs has parts made in India they might not buy them, it’s superficial but true.
