….the difference in the lowest marks obtained in reserved category and the general category is quite much. But, do you know, one of reserved category student may get selected inspite of lower marks rather than the much better general student… And the result… you can feel the difference once you work closely with any such person in real world.

One of my fellow classmate who got chance in IIT by this fiasco was just scored 1st division in the 12th that year… below average student… whom you can not give IIT brand name and depute in any serious project anywhere in the world… #SMH

@bookface Nobody is contesting the fact that the reservation policy is misused in every possible way and that it does not really help those who are meant to be helped. But the question is how you are going to address the issue. Is it by totally abolishing it?

If the main purpose of empowering the backward is not achieved then its better to abolish it rather than tolerating this hopeless situation. Every week some new group of ppl start protesting that they want reservation. This wont end anytime soon.

Even putting creamy layer wont help. Best example is govt of AP gives scholarship for students whose annual income is less than<2L. I have seen number os ppl misutilizing it. If their parents r doing some business then first they dont pay tax for entire amount so their children also claim that their parents income is <2L. And they r the ppl who use costly bikes and cars in clgs. This sheme is misutlised by ppl of all catogaries even OCs. The hunger for scholarships and reservation would never stop even if the person has millions.
Otherwise it should be limited only 2 education. If a person studies in a clg with benifit of reservation then why does he need spl treatment again for job interviews?

It’s not enough just to say, “Abolish”. Propose a better policy in its place.

Most arguments over reservation in education system in IIT are highly tilted to the plight of students from general category. But, in reality, major crisis faced by students from lower castes (SC/ST/OBC), which have forced them to take extreme steps in the recent past, were also driven by reservation in our education system. Hence, it is biased to think that only students from general category are paying a heavy price due to reservation in India; because students from lower castes are paying a bigger price with their lives.

I hate it as well.
I do have reservation but I never use it. Always use General while filling up any form coz I want to get something on my own and not coz of reservation system.
Youngsters need to change their mindset.. Oldies wont listen.. But not sure whats wrong with this generation where people are fighting to get reservation. LOL

Well the change can only come if the people being accused here become more responsible. They must feel grateful for all the help they received. They must have a sense of giving back to the society.

Basically ethics and etiquette is the most undervalued thing in India. This should be taught from nursery level because it is easier to change when we are small. Kids do not have all these jealousy,envy and even if they do that could easily be changed/removed in this period. But instead the schools teach them big big things, things which they can’t even comprehend but mug up just to do well in the exam. Even parental pressure who do not care if the kid is learning or not but he needs to top. In the present day scenario, the parents do not have time for their own children so where would they learn this from ?

So I would suggest changing the education system, having mutual respect for each other (this is very very difficult to obtain because in any case of 2 individuals one would be superior to the other in some form and vice versa) can be helpful.

-When such poor candidates get a govt.job their kids wont be able to take reservation
-Thus resrv. quota goes to Deserving poor Sc/st kids
= Upliftment of All Sc/St not only a handful few.

Why its so difficult to regulate ?

Its still a Big favour to sc/st because no1 discriminates them at current times or else they face the wrath of the law or community itself.

People long ago and even now used to brag about there race / cast like we are this , we did that [ based on their culture and history ]. But when it comes to profession and education the whole thing changes. Most don’t like to face competition and show their eligibility / j=how capable are they for a job / place.

So they want reservation to get something which simply they just don’t deserve even if it means taking away it from eligible person or spread chaos. If you claim your race / cast is superior prove it by your true eligibility not through chaos.

Politicians can now only think of wining vote and making lots of money so no more they just do what is right. So nothing much is going to change unless we change. So this reservation system based on race/cast/religion/sex needs to be stopped for all and at once. But who will do that ? How many people can go beyond their own hypocrisy and selfishness ?

If it can be done only then we will see the face of true progress or else it will be just a show off.

why only SC/ST mate ? If it’s only for SC/ST then where people of general category will go if their yearly income is 100 – 200 thousands ? IF it’s complex for a SC/ST person then it’s not a notch easier for a general category person either. Even after so many years independence we still discriminate people based on cast / race ? What a shame !
