HOW?

Apart from airtel zero and airtel voip which was taken back by the company, I dont think there are violations of net neutrality in India.

Net neutrality? What does it means?

Simply put… As you pay for your data, you choose your websites to watch.

Now all these ISPs trying to corner the internet by signing up with the biggies of e-retail, social networking, job search portals, etc. etc. so that you will be charged a bomb to surf the small fish (I mean… smaller sites with shallow pocket) which are outside this big league of baddies. https://cdn3.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_twisted.gif

Reliance already joined hand with Facebook. https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_evil.gif

As @hg916 remarked, I don’t understand why you would say that. India is infact pretty decent right now when it comes to net neutrality. But this is a transition period and our actions as consumers, or lack thereof, will make the future.

Remember this is just the start !!! I wonder if this does not translate into ISP’s going berserk and introducing differential plans !
In this age where Data Consumption is a key to how knowledge progresses through the masses differential plans are those which are least required ! I hope stern laws are enacted to prevent the heavy lobbying that should follow !

A Broader Look :-

Net neutrality means the access to internet should be neutral. Companies (ISPs like Vodafone, Airtel) should not be biased or favor a company..

For example, if you are paying 150rs for 1gb net for 1month, you are able to access any site without paying extra..
Now suppose in future, companies starts charging separately for WhatsApp.. Like you cant access WhatsApp in that 1gb net.. And company set a price of 200rs per month for WhatsApp.. You have to pay 150+200=350 if u wanna access both internet n WhatsApp..

Now lets come to the free model..
Take current example, Airtel will offer flipkart access for FREE. (because flipkart will pay to Airtel some amount).
means I can access flipkart anytime for free.. I may buy from them and hence flipkart gets income..
Now I will end up using flipkart only.. Why.? Because I can surf thousands of varieties and many hours without paying a single rupee as data charge.. I won’t even bother to check prices on other sites as it will consume my data nd hence money..
So, other companies (like snapdeal, amazon) will suffer the loss..
Flipkart can afford to pay Airtel for making it free but what about other companies mainly startups..?? Where they will go..?It will be hard to survive for them…

I hope you get my point..

It doesn’t mean internet will be free.Only certain sites will be free(such as flipkart.)
But in future you definitely have to pay more for services like whatsapp, skype etc
Since you are the customer who pays for the data you should have the choice of which sites you want to browse not them.

What’s your stance on Net Neutrality?

Decent explanation, but you failed to mention bandwidth throttling which is just as important an issue as outright blocks.

I first learned of this issue in 2008 when Comcast started throttling my BitTorrent traffic in the US. I recommend people to visit the following sites to get a global perspective on the issue:

I am not aware of the differential speed. So didn’t choose to share my little knowledge of it.
