Wonder what had happened to him facing the same ball in ‘old’ cricket ! I mean if he was without helmet .

Afaik the ball din’t hit the helmet, though the visuals aren’t clear. The modern day of cricket had developed bowlers bowling some brutal bouncers that too at a ferocious pace.

Bro, cricket is much safer these days due to the following reasons:
1) Helmets and modern accessories like AD-Guards etc.
2) Covered pitches (earlier the pitches were used to remain uncovered)
3) Limited no. of bouncers in an over (Gavaskar used to face 4-5 bouncers in an over… the famous Carribean chin-music)
4) No beamer (google it if you don’t know what it is) allowed
5) Modern curators to maintain the quality of ground as well as pitch
6) Separate cricket stadiums (earlier football was also played in Eden Gardens)
7) No ball rule (earlier one foot behind the crease was OK. So tall bowlers like Wes Hall, Jo Garner etc. used to bowl from 18-19 yards)
and many more.
Still accidents happen…
You have good knowledge of cricket !
6 & 7 points are interesting . Never knew about it
I am chucking this old times ~ current times discussion for some dusra discussion
Prayers and wishes for Phillip and his near and dear ones for things to get better.. soon
Very unfortunate incident..
Hope he recovers soon

R.I.P
Rip
OMG…RIP…
bowler might also be going thru emotional crisis…
Just don’t allow the bouncer
I might be sceptical but a life is life and it’s lost!!!
May his soul Rest In Peace
Very very unfortunate ! Feeling soo bad for him and his family .
Yes the bowler must be feeling as if he has comitted a murder but we cannot directly blame him . The bouncer was and is part of the game.
May his soul RIP !
May god give his family enough strength to fight in these bad times.
Wonder how his mother must be feeling who was there on the Ground when he was playing .
He would have turned 26 on Sunday .
When he met his idol Sachin Tendulkar

It is so unfortunate that he died at such a young age and that too while doing something he loved to .

The authorities should also not allow close-in fielders. I hope many of you remember Raman Lamba’s incident.
Rest In Peace Mr. Phillip Hughes. In your short but sweet career you have entertained many cricket-lovers.
