Thanks guys
If u r first timer then team bhp also confuses you a lot. Low maintenance is highly debatable.
How many in family? Terrain?your height.. Distance per month approx?…sedan/hatchback…do u care resale value….many factors decide.
You may settle for Honda/Toyota as per friends….but I drive Ford..not recommended.
petrol or diesel which one you want to buy?

Petrol or diesel depends on your usage. If your running is low and you won’t be using it daily, than petrol is rhe choice to go. Diesel Version costs 1 lakh more than the petrol version for same variant.Diesel vehicles needs to be used regularly. If left unused for many days than it wont start easily. Petrol vehicles can be left unused as long as you want. Same isnt true with diesel. If you are sure you can save the extra money paid in fuel costs you can go for diesel car. Just calculate the amount of petrol you can buy with 1 lakh rs and tally with your approx usage. We bought a petrol swift dzire bcos we don’t have much running and it has just clocked 10k in 2 years. We saved a lot compared to a diesel vehicle. Don’t buy a diesel vehicle just thinking about cheap fuel. You end up spending much more if you can’t recover the extra money paid for diesel engine. You should recover the extra money paid in 2 years if you are going for a diesel vehicle.

Yes first timer bro… Need low maintenance, height is 5.11, not so much use of car approx 400 500 km per month maximum and yes need resale value… Personally i prefer sedan, if there are some great features in hatchback i can go for it

Its delta model cost something around 5.8 exshowroom and it is equipped with more safety features like 2 airbags and abs and yes I am talking about petrol variant as u said that u running will be less.
so instead of swift dzire go for baleno as it has nice look and is equipped with loads of features.

just like swift have petrol variants as lxi vxi zxi
baleno have sigma delta zeta and alpha as its different variants
Low maintenance = Maruti, Hyundai, Honda.
Consider Celerio, Ritz, Swift, i10 Grand.
You can also buy base models of Amaze, Baleno, i20 within your budget.
I think Baleno, Swift Dzire and similar models will cost you beyond 6 lakhs for sure. So do jot down what features are important.
As someone already said, in most cities Maruti/Hyundai/Toyota/Honda all have good service and low all the vehicles have similar cost of maintenance too. The resale value of Maruti and Hyundai vehicles are good for sure but I am not really aware of other brands.
I personally use a Hyundai Grand i10 and I am very happy with it. The only drawback I see is that the suspension isn’t that great, it doesn’t handle bumps that well. This can be more uncomfortable especially for passengers seated in rear seat.
Since the time I got my Grand i10 I have been going on loads of road trips, it isn’t an ideal car for long drives with 3 or 4 people but does the job well.
For me the most important aspects were mileage, decent seating for driver (my height is 5’ 11" too) and bluetooth connectivity for taking calls. The tiny features that made me decide for grand i10 were auto folding mirrors (I always close the side mirrors once I park my vehicle even in my old car so the auto folding mirrors do help me), the nitty gritty features such as rear AC vents, dual phone charging ports (one in front an one in the rear), USB and AUX for music etc. Added to that it has dual air bags and ABS too so the basics for highway travel are well covered.
There are many features that are more on a personal level, so list down what features are important for your kind of ride and then shortlist the car.
Also do keep in mind that at times it’s better to go for a high version of a low costing car such as Grand i10 than a base version of expensive car such as i20 Elite/Baleno.
It’s a tradeoff and you should know better what features are more important and what are not. If the engine power, seating and mileage alone matter a lot then get the base version of Baleno etc. but if the other small features matter a lot on a day to day basis then cut down and get a higher version of smaller car.
You can consider swift too. Both swift and dzire are good cars. Low on maintenence. The latest model of swift has many new features compared to older models. I have a second version dzire vxi bought in Jan 2014.
Also think about Xuv 500

What not an Audi a8l or a BMW 720d then?

Voilla. Kingfishers.
nice thread. give a try to nano nxt with auto shift. you will love the car. 6L for a running of just 6k kms per year doesn’t really justify the cost. rather put rest of the money in MF monthly sip and make the money grow.
Best resale is of Maruti hands down no argument on that but that 6L comes down to just 4L.
so 2L / 30k kms = 6.66 per km
add 2 bucks per km for maintainance since low running
add 2 bucks as fuel cost per km petrol = 10.66/km
so 10.66 × 30k kms = rs. 3.19 lakhs is your real expense in 5 years when you sell your car.
so stop day dreaming and buy something practical for real usage.
Ir else walk in a merc or bmw showroom and buy a brand new car at just 2.25 interest rate. keep paying emi of sone 20k per month and when you return emi stops. If you go for Maruti, Hundai or Honda you pay 11% interest + processing charge.
