the site http://www.trai.g...n/ was taken down by AnonOpsIndia https://twitter.com/opindia_revenge/status/5926...
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India was allegedly hacked. A group, which calls itself AnonOpsIndia, claimed on Twitter on Monday that it had taken down the trai.gov.in website through a distributed denial of service or DDoS attack.
The alleged hacking occurred hours after the TRAI revealed the email addresses of over one million people who had written to the organisation about their views on a consulation paper on net neutrality. This had made all the respondents’ email IDs potentially available to spammers. TRAI officials denied any hacking claims and said that the site was down “due to some technical glitches.”
This is a privacy nightmare. It’s a readymade database for email addresses for unscrupulous companies and it’s worth a lot of money, because most of these million plus email addresses are genuine and verified.
“I understand that it is the duty of the TRAI to make everything that they have received public since it is a public consultation after all,” says Rajya Sabha MP Rajeev Chandrashekhar who says he is taking up the broader issue of citizens’ privacy up in the Parliament. “Still, there is an obligation on them to not reveal personal details like my email address or my phone number.”
Lawyer Apar Gupta, who has been an active participant in the SaveTheInernet campaign says that publishing email address in clear text potentially leads to risks such as spamming and harassment of people who have participated in this consultation. “Even if these details were to be provided publicly, they shouldn’t have been published in a manner where they could be scraped easily by any email marketer,” he says.
Kiran Jonnalagadda, the Bangalore-based software engineer and the person who started SaveTheInternet.in had to say in:
Dear TRAI: we love how transparent you’re being in this whole net neutrality debate, but seriously, this is a massive breach of citizens’ privacy. What are you thinking?

TRAI – ‘Let the scammers scam and spammers spam’
Anonymous India – ‘Nice TRAI!’
@opindia_revenge
Can anyone please tell me why people send spam messages (I mean people (if getting any of their fun from it would get over with it after some time ; but i don’t find these spam messages getting over))
I want to know do people actually buy Viagra etc. after viewing these ads , or is this some how related to ad sense ; payperview pr payper click etc. or something else ???
I mean how is spamming profitable (other than self content/leisure etc. ) ; considering the fact even spammers have to devote time and financial resources into this ??
Edit – Why do people make it an issue when their email id’s are shared openly ?? I mean all the spam messages go into the spam folder without even us knowing about them

Off topic Q whose answer is just a google away, Please take it offline.
Meanwhile The TRAI site is back online, I hope they have not put back the emails this time.
@cybertechie @Dr Anshuman Let me hear your thoughts on the questions raised by @ishandon.
TRAI’ians should be suspended and not be allowed to come back for mismanaging so many email addresses and not taking proper care :verybad: @B@R_0_0_D @corsair @marketdimer @no fpd @rajdesidime @SWEET_WI$H @Achilles @sence $
!r@m @Alien @TronGalaxy @micke @login33 @dimepincher @Gurnani @breadcrumb .. .. ..
no wait, i got that wrong.
AnonOpsIndia should be penalised for bringing the issue to the foreground. And putting the spotlight on the said lax culture/ process at TRAI. infact AnonOpsIndia should not be allowed back in. And if ever found, then shown the door.
TRAI is sacrosanct and do not have to move an inch. Why should they

Stay on the topic or take a hike,
Oh the irony! You have not stayed on topic even once — you always drag and connect your political agenda somehow to everything. If you keep posting your political agenda on non-political topics, be ready to hear from me.
By the way, your politically inclined posts do not deserve my analysis, bro.
