hi
I am selling my MacBook Pro. I got a suitable offer from someone who wants to pay through PayPal from overseas and his son will collect the laptop after payment confirmation. I have never used PayPal.
Can some one pls tell me if it is safe and good option. Will there be any transaction charges or currency conversion charges?
Please advice.

There are chances that he might have done some illegal/fraud things and receive money in your Paypal address. Later, he might say that he is not interested in the laptop and wants the money deposited back in some other account. Ultimately, you will be trouble. A big NO

thanks a lot both of u for saving me from a trap
i don’t know how to give karmas, will find out and give to both of u, or could u help me with that too!!
thanks again
You see payment can be reversed later if some one raise a claim of no delivery or damaged product
Since he is transfering money from overseas and collecting it via his son ,u need to understand that u will not be able to show proof of delivery
It is some thing like u sell a product on ebay to buyer in some other city but buyer gets it picked up from home, so u have no delivey proof and after u gave him ur product he will raise claim with ebay and u will not get ur money as acc to ebay product was never delivered
I am not sure about receiving money but if you had to send money to someone overseas, Paypal would be the most secure. You can always chargeback in case things go awry.
You can ask him to pay you in Bitcoins rather. Btc can be easily bought via usd and u can easily convert btc to inr. Fees are minimal and txn irreversible, ie once u receive it’s urs forever.. Btc is best option. Avoid PP.
Avoid it. No one overseas is so desperate to get a macbook pro from India. All this I’ll pay first and my relative will collect is a huge scam. Paypal just reverses the payment as soon as the buyer raises a claim. It might be a case of carding or a mail scam and also paypal is not good for sellers if the buyer is a good scam artist. Avoid paypal, ebay etc and only sell directly on quikr, techenclave, erodov (the latter 2 are good sites for such tech deals).
If the person is collecting the item then why don’t he gives cash. There is something fishy, so stay away from it. You can be charged back if he raises the claim in PayPal. Stay away from it, you might end up donating him laptop for free of cost.
They have planned some thing.
Thanks a lot to everyone for ur valuable suggestions.
Now I know that this is a scam for sure. He is telling me that he’ll pay even without checking the laptop and also agreed to pay any transaction charges too.
I have been saved by the helpful diners!!
Is there a way I can report it to some genuine authority so that he cannot loot anyone else…

Why mot his son pay amd get delivery… Dont take any other medium
I doubt he will actually use PayPal. Even if he files a claim, the funds remain blocked until the dispute is settled. Plus, his identity is known. More likely, he will spoof a PayPal email stating that the funds have been received by PayPal and are being held in escrow until you ship the laptop. Don’t do it.
Don’t go.
first, if you make india’s paypal, you will need to give your PAN card to receive payment. indian paypal to indian paypal, we cannot transfer money of any kind. so he need to have non indian paypal.
second, while transferring the payment; there are two methods. one is sending for some item or digital goods etc and second is friend to friend or to family etc. in case if he transfers it as money for some merchandise, teri chu*ne ke bahut chance hai. these funds are released only after 21 days for regular users. if you link for ebay top rated seller account with paypal, then only you can redeem them immediately. he’ll raise claim immediately and there will be no proof from your side of any sort and tera maal gaya free me
third thing, paypal fees is like tooooo much. first, they’ll charge their 5% fee, then they’ll charge another 5% or so for currency conversion. you’ll loose a lot in this.
so, avoid it!
