These folks are not running a piracy site to mint $$$.

They are trying to run a BitTorrent search engine. I don’t know how the founders are accountable for law infringement by the users. But yeah, these guys are aware of that, and they are trying to protect the freedom of information. Activists are more focused on their goals, not how much money the made.

Also, Piracy is a side effect of failed distribution channel. Do you remember the last time you downloaded a pirated file from the web? Laws of often sounds stupid, use your morale.

I think thats where we should draw the line. Professing piracy is as stupid as absolutely criminalising it. If piracy becomes a hip thing to do and every human being starts doing it, it’ll be the end of the world. The status quo is what we want to prevail, with sufficient friction between the copyright enforcers and freedom of information supporters….until we find a better solution to this standoff. Piracy in all forms should only be carried out behind closed doors with heads hung in shame….because no matter how we try to justify it, its still thievery….because we all can make do with an absolute rule of copyrights….but we cant live in a world with absolute piracy.

Its impossible to stop piracy completely. Many domains have gone down but then many have come up too. Talking about movies I don’t download much from torrent sites many good quality rips are available from mediafire sites.
The govts should focus on improving the quality of life of the general public rather than following the hues and cries of big studios. Once money among people will rise naturally they would think bad about piracy.
Talking about myself, 2 years ago I never thought I would pay for a movie or a game but now I do think to find it officially and buy from there rather than streaming. Thing is some money should go to the developer rather than nothing.
And many people who pirate stuff would never have paid for it anyway so its not a loss of revenue for them. But enlightened folks would know the harms of piracy and hence they would think not to pirate stuff.
All of these can only happen when education,money etc reaches to the people.

Torrentz had been my first visit to the torrent world and from there, i came to know about piratebay, kickass, isohunt, extratorrent, 1337x etc. But when demonoid was active, it was at its best. Some more news that many more smaller ones are also on the way out.
