@A2Zdeals, why don’t you do you own research and then come up with few short lists and then put that here. You want your (friend’s) research to be done by others? Think about it. (The reason for no replies: Bina bulaye koi ata nai….)
A question comes in anyone’s mind and bam they create a thread in DnD without sweating first themselves they expect others to do it for them (for free).
An exception was Sence for his AC thread, he documented his whole research before asking question and then following up with more inputs by him. This should be the standard.

sorry, nothing like that. i too am out of touch with realities and the numerous permutations and combinations that have come up in these things off late.

also, views on performance and reliability or service differ so ‘radically’ on the same thing here, that i tend to shy away from registering my thought.

though one thing is for sure; for my own use and with failing eyesight, i only tend to use screens with a matte finish (anti glare is not the same as matte. i avoid LEDs for this reason and continue to prefer devices with LCD screens)

though, like you; in this context i too am at ‘0’ ; i’d say that for 25000 a person can rather go for the most one can afford and not pay for the OS upfront. unless Microsoft’s Windows OS is a must, one can go with Solaris, Linus or something.

If Windows is a must, then check if friendji has an existing license on some machine ? if one discards the unit or if the hard-disk gets konked off MS allows for the registration data to be reset. (at-least i have done so back in the day)

I do not need to tell you the commonly undertaken alternate option, though taking recourse to the same may not be necessitated.

Basic means no extraordinary hardware requirements but windows is must.

do not want to counter the views on HP.. but let me tell you , in all these years from the IBM Thinkpad days till now when half the pyuking units do not even have optical drives; i’ve come to think of HP and Dell as fairly reliable bets, although they do too err.

i kind of get repulsed at the way some of the Chinese brands market themselves.. Lenovo is the Akai TV of laptops sadly.
