Guys, I’m going on a leisure tour to Pondicherry aka PUDUCHERRY.
Can you give some insights about the places to visit and the bike rentals.
I’m visiting it for the first time with my friends. Heard about beaches and churches. Anything special about this place.
Time of visit : 22-25 October, 2015.
Regards,
Masthead1
@masthead1 @adnan_d92 Why Puducherry?
It’s a crowded town with road traffic which reminds one of Brownian Motion.
Every side you turn to, you will find a face totally drunk and about to go kaput anytime.
The tourist dept. advertises it as “Peaceful Pondicherry”. Peace, my A$$! There is sloth, lethargy, irresponsibility everywhere. But I know it is the general scenario of this country as such. Why pick out this place alone?
I’m just curious to know what made you guys choose this place so that I can guide you accordingly.
@Sudhakaran Please help our friends with your valuable input. I’m not much of an offliner.
Damn Magus, French would not be be too proud of you for understating the significance of Pondicherry.

Brownian motion? Seriously? I would say a very good comparison. Studying basic science for a living?
Btw,
Cancelled my plan based on your comment. I thought it would be peaceful and a good time away from the traffic of Bengaluru.
But, then,
It’s all the same. Will go to indiranagar instead for some good brewed drinks.
Cheers!
KG for helping me out.
Why not Wayanad? Would be a terrific experience if you are a wildlife lover. I have been to Chennai 5-7 times in past 3 years however did not feel like visiting Pondi due to similar reasons mentioned by Magus. I Assume, being in Bangalore you must have already visited Coorg & Gokarna?

I’ve been to Coorg like a hundred times. Fed up of that now. Wanted to try South.
Visited Wayanad, Vaithri, Munnar, Thekkady, Kottayam, Kumarkonam. And Coorg, dandeli, gokarna, Goa, dudhsagar falls, bandipur.. Only things left is Tamil nadu and Andhra. Never been to Pondicherry before.
Anyways, any other places you suggest apart from these?
You are quite a traveller!! Good to see someone in DD who loves travelling.
Since you have pretty much covered all touristy areas you can maybe venture into less known tourist Locations. How about Idukki, Gavi in Kerala? If you love beaches you can travel down south to Varkala, kerala as well.

Saw Gavi. Sounds interesting! Less explored, Less commercial, No Noise and No traffic! That’s like an ideal place bro. Will surely look into Idukki and Gavi. Thanks for the info.
Edit : I travel a lot with my friends and family, but this time,
Change of plans. I want to travel alone. Me and my Camera.. Any place where a hopeless wanderer can be?

Have you explored the possibility of travelling abroad? Starting off with some Exotic Asian countries such as Laos , Cambodia etc? It is kind of nice place for a wanderer. You will also get a lot of backpacking western tourists for company.

Bro, Out of funds for that kind of tour. Will surely consider going once I’m a bit stable and a secure job. Cambodia is the place where Angkor wat is located right?
Heard a lot about that temple.

Yes, that is right.
You have pretty much gone to all the places in and around Bangalore. There are still lot of places in Kerala which are interesting. You can also travel to parts of Tamil Nadu to experience the culture, temples etc.
I love travelling too. This December, I’m taking a 3 month off work just to travel & relax. Corporate life takes a toll on your head after a few years. Your thread reminds me to create an itinerary for myself. I’m also in touch with few of my local friends based out in South to get information about interesting places. I would also love to avoid touristy, noisy places .Will surely keep you posted in case i come across something more interesting.

Lol! Nirvana!
Sure bro. Keep up notified if anything comes up.
@masthead1 Fz bike Rs400/- per day and scooty 300 like
@cybertechie Strip club taken down moral police? That’s news to me.
It was indeed a Peaceful Puducherry, like 10 years ago. But no more, believe me.
All you see now is an endless array of vehicles, blaring horns, stray dogs etc. I don’t know if it’s just the issue with the local govt. or something. But one thing is for sure, we have had a shockingly non-functioning govt. for the past five years or more and it has had its effect. Puducherry could have been made a paradise. Such a small town with all the facilities ruined by the local administrators. Shame!
Auroville is the only place mostly unaffected by this because of the involvement of foreigners. Another thing is the Paradise Beach. Nobody even takes care of the dilapidated Arikamedu Greek-Roman port here. Ref.: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ari...du Such a historically important site, not even gatekeepers you will find there.
@masthead1 You are welcome to Pondicherry. All the more, if you are travelling alone. You could manage your time at Auroville, Auro Beach, Gandhi Statue Beach, Arikamedu, Paradise Beach with your camera. You could also spend a day boating at the Pichavaram Backwaters with Mangrove Forests, located around 50 km from Pondy. Ref.: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pich...am If you bribe the ferryman, he will take you beyond the permitted limits and it is such a wonderful place to be. Such peace! Hallelujah! So much food for the photographer in you as well.
But I cannot accompany you since I’m having a hectic schedule as such. Sorry about that!
Note: I’m totally unaware of the hotel and bike rent rates as I never had to avail those services being a local. Forwarding this query (along with that of brewed liquors) to @BUTTERFLYBOY

Thambi namma orra nee? Endha theruvula porikkitu irukka?
@Magus
Bro,its not a issue. This information is far more excellent than any other tourist can give. I’ve made arrangements for the Hotel and asked for the bike. He said, no prior booking needed. On spot.. And prices were around 300 to 500.
Will surely visit the backwaters.. I dont know how to thank you. Any gesture from my part will be done.
Thanks bro. Seriously!

Pmed you
@masthead1 For your next trip to wind down, you may also want to consider beaches in North Goa like Arambol.
The plus point is if/when your mood changes, party scene is only an hour away.
Even I’m planning a trip in December.. Do post pics after you finish your trip.. Enjoy!
