Just because amazon is generous to give this offer, please do not exploit it. If you have ZERO intention to buy an ereader then just do not bother about this offer.
Being greedy always kills this and such other deals and then the companies would think twice before doling out any good deals.

Seriously man… got to admire the Indian mentality.. just because its free we got to exploit it.. how stupid is that?? If you are really interested, then go ahead and try and buy. Instead of wasting your time trying a device for which you dont have any requirement, then returning it, it is better to spend your time acquire a new skill instead of jerking off in front of your PC..

Well said..Karma for you.

BTW: I never really find these ereaders worth it. Borrowed kindle from a friend for a few days and than returned it back. I prefer iPad mini retina for such purposes but than again getting a hard copy of the book is a pleasant experience.

On good thing about these basic ereaders like kindle is that you do not get distracted as against a tablet. Like if you use android tab or ipad mini etc then time and again you may feel like surfing internet or playing game etc but with the ereader, your main purpose is only to read and you cannot do much more than that (except may be couple of more basic functions).
For a hardcore book lover, these ereaders are god send.

PS: I am not a book lover though.

Agree but that depends on how you use it. I personally just switch off the wifi and use the dnd mode in my iPad while I read books. The iBooks graphics are great plus it syncs well with my iPhone and Mac. So I can read from where I started. Same goes with the kindle app which I can install on my iPhone and iPad too.

Even the battery backup of iPad is great so I still kind of in double mind why do people buy such eReaders that just meant for book reading. That’s just me and different people have different choices. As I said in my previous post I always prefer hard copy of the book but I do read eBooks too.

I signed up on DD to reply to this thread and here goes my first post:
Exactly my thoughts a couple of months back on why people buy an e-reader when any other gadget could do much more than that? Now I own a Kindle touch and am really proud of it. I totally understand why amazon would bring such a deal, bcoz they are sure book lovers who never tried it are going to fall in love with it. Kindle is one of the major reasons to re-ignite my passion for reading after 3-4 years!
Pros :
1. The e-ink display of e-reader is much much better than even iPad retina display.
2. Reading on Kindle has increased my reading speed. How? Configurable font style and size to optimize to one’s comfort. Example : The Fountainhead. My reading is slow on hard copy due to smaller font size and less line spacing; with Kindle I can read the same book faster with increased font size and line space.
3. Feels very close to reading a hard copy. (But can never beat the experience of reading a hard copy though!)
4. Battery lasts for 70+ hrs of usage.

Cons :
1. That awesome smell of fresh books is missing!
2. Although they claim glare free screen, under artificial light while reading in night throws glare at some angles (Not tried paperwhite). Under sunlight it is very good!
3. Cannot manhandle like a book.

If you are a voracious reader, you will earn your return on investment within months! Book lovers, go for the trial and I’m sure you will love it.

I think you are right. Loot/Price error/Cheating_Online_Sites is OKAY but this is where we draw the line. Taking maximum use(or from earlier comments, even use) of a legit offer is too much.

couldn’t agree more with some of the points put forth by rak, rv and gorab
and gorab https://cdn1.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_smile.gif thanks a zillion for those marvvv. points and thoughts.
you turn the cons of e-readers into nostalgia filled irreplaceable pro’s for paper books

one wonders how people are only squibbing over this one and DD has to promote this without getting a single suggestion
last time Amazon ran it, i spoke to them http://www.desidime.com/forums/hot-deals-online...

my take:

RV, much as I give it to you, book is a book,
do consider gorab’s first point (and also 4th/ battery). this is NOT an AIO device for a reason.

i am trying to stop my irritation with Amazon to spill over here, because they somehow thing of India as a non mature market.

Maybe if you handle some of the newer Kindles (with colour displays and GSM/Wifi support) you might think again whether to compare it to Apples

Kindles still have issues supporting Macromedia Adobe Flash so yes Youtubing et al are an issue.

Thanks so much Gorab for your elaborate yet precise eval.
It made me also log back in to just comment. (possibly for the last time)
rak, rv, gorab you all deserve much more than karma as gratitude.

@kaushik, hope you grow up.
Kindle are well supported with a strong organisation. They even replace devices within U.S., even if bought in India. (as an exceptional case)

Hi Dimers,

Here is my short review of Kindle Paper white which i brought at $99 on Amazon BlackFriday deal here is USA:

I was always struggling reading books on my Nexus 4 (ya it is a really bad idea i know) then brought a iPad Mini just so that I can read techie ebooks on a bigger screen with Retina display but still I couldn’t read more than 10 mins and my reading speed is so slow. In this one month I brought Kindle Paperwhite I finished 2 fiction books and referred many techie books which is an achievement for me. It feels better than a hard cover book for me. Here are some of the pros i felt:

1. Any book brought though Amazon Kindle can be shared with 6 people so the cost gets by 1/6 and they can enjoy the highlights you marked while reading book.
2. Kindle has word wise feature which is awesome.
3. When you look for a word while reading Kindle adds the word to Vocabulary Builder and shows you on home screen or you can manually go to Vocabulary builder app. It helps to reinforce new words. You can mark Memorized / Delete the words as you are done with remembering them. Isn’t it awesome ?
4. Price of Kindle books is very cheap than ebooks and there are many deals on Kindle books(I will buy kindle books by changing country to India because the same book costs more in US which I shouldn’t be doing.)
5. You can lend most of the books for 14 days to your friends. So I borrow books from friends so I don’t need to buy them. Isn’t it awesome ?
6. Paper white is awesome. You already know no glare and many many other features when compared to iPad mini like it is very light to carry with one hand and also it fits in my formal pant pocket https://cdn1.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_smile.gif so I can carry where ever I go.
7. One of the big plus to me over you guys is I am a library member so I can lend 1000’s of kindle books for free https://cdn1.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_smile.gif.
8. Many of you guys might be worrying whether you can read your pdf books in Kindle and the answer is yes. Download Calibre. It can convert kindle to mobi and with a click you can send your mobi book to your kindle.
9. If you zoom in a PDF file on your desktop/iPad mini you need to scroll to sides to read text. But in Kindle zoom with zoom the font size and shows less text per page so no need to scroll left and right on every page to read complete text on each line. Also margin and line spacing is awesome which you can’t do on other devices. It will help you a lot lot to read books easily and also makes you feel happy as with big font size and more line spacing you can complete pages faster and you will feel sense of achievement as you change pages faster.

And there are many tons of advantages of Kindle which I can’t explain and I would say go for it. I recommend Kindle Paperwhite rather than the cheaper one. It is worth every penny of your Investment. Ask me if you have any doubts.:-)

I don’t know much about Kindle, but using Nook for more than an year. It is really useful for any book lover (40+). Due to aging can’t read small fonts, with my nook I increase the font size and read comfortably. Particularly BIG PILLOW SIZE books become so light now. The basic model E Ink don’t strain eyes. With the expandable memory of 32GB one can load books which can’t even read with one’s life time. Innumerable books are available free with Internet. The only problem I face is, many of them are scanned copies in jpeg,, and unable to increase the font size of those jpeg.

Please don’t misuse a good gesture of Amazon. Even with Hard copy books, one can buy but never read unless he or she really interested to read it.
