You need atleast 2500Mah Batteries, Generally Ni-Mh Batteries are used for Cameras.

These NiCd Batteries can be used for Clocks.

Personally i don’t think so. Currently i’m using 1500 mAH Duracell Alkaline batt for my fuji s1800 and the backup is just above than enough.
Also Ni-Cd batteries are considered better than alkaline.
