Not a bad choice. Got mine (Tronsmart MK808b Plus) from geekbuying for 1800 bucks a month back. For less than 2000 bucks you are getting a very decently speced android stick (Amlogic S805 Quad Core processor, Mali 450 Quad Core GPU, 1 GB DDR3 RAM, WiFi, Bluetooth etc) that decodes almost every currently available format (including H.265) up to 1080p resolution.
IMHO, MK808b Plus is one of the few android sticks in the market that has got active community support (BTW, I am using WeTek’s CM12 OS on it) in the form of custom Roms.

The configuration looks decent but I really beg to differ that it plays all content, leaving 4k aside even high bit rate full HD files are heavy on such htpc.
I would rather suggest to buy rockchip based htpc. Now they even have new octa core cpu and u get it for few pennies.
I was using rk3188 based box until it got bricked. Then thanks to fk I somehow managed to buy mad catz mojo for ~8500 and Dude this thing is monster in terms of gaming and watching TV series with full support to kodi for 4k.
Currently running Android TV rom thanks to xda!

@omsairam Both geekbuying and gearbest are offering some really good Andorid TV sticks/boxes at pretty competitive pricing. My experience with geekbuying has been solid over the last few months. I chose Amlogic SOC over Rockchip SOC mainly due to its ability to play H265 content through hardware emulation (RK3188 can’t play newer format like these while Amlogic S805 can do even at 1080p resolution) and having slightly powerful GPU (Mali 450 of S805 against Mali 400 of RK3188) that supports linux based OS (OpenELEC for example) for dual booting (haven’t tried it yet but there are people who have already).
Though Rockchip do have RK3288 and RK3388 in their line up, they are well above my budget (less than 2000 bucks was my target). Besides, there were reports that heating issues that have plagued 3288 series seems to have continued onto newer 3388 series as well.
If budget is not your constraint then I will suggest you to go for Amlogic S812 SOC (latest and can play 4k resolution natively) based android TV stick or boxes. Generally those devices that are made by Beelink has got active custom rom communities compared to other brands.
The one I am using is a derivative of Beelink device marketed by Tronsmart (model MK808b Plus) bought for 28 USD.
@0msairam – Use gear best.. 4 of my friends bought from there, only one had to pay customs.. If possible use Netherlands post as free shopping option.. Get the mk808b plus.. It’s more than enough for most things and best value for money.. Rest are costly and may not support x265.
On a side note – has anyone purchased a Chromebook shipped from abroad? pricing is too high in India and wanted to get the best XBMC/Kodi experience in compact device within 10K http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid...68
