Do watch out and be careful. Customs guys tightened up things at airport especially because of the huge flow of iPhones.
I am sure things will subside in a week or two after Indian launch but still, be careful. If possible get your box opened, put the phone in a case and make it look like a used one before getting it to India.

Bro hope you have read the igyaan’s coverage on iphone smuggling..Already 200+ iphone 6s seized at airport .
A 36% duty is being charged and if that custom duty is paid then it will make your phone costlier than Indian phone..
One thing is worthy to be noted that if phone stops working, then apple will not repair even you offer them hefty prices..
You have to get it repaired from outside and chances that they may damage further besides charging premium amount for it..

bro it says this. so the duty will be levied on the above amount which cannot be more then 2000 and also. my relative is coming on 25 october so i think the heat will be cool until then coz iphones will be released here as well.
plus i have been using iphones from last 3 years.. never had a problem till now. they work flawless for couple of years atleast. here i have to spend 72,000 to get the 64 gigs which is a lot.

as per different states in USA they take different tax amount… so minimum $50 you have to count so for 64Gb it is above $800… also that $50 tax can be refunded on the airport if you had made new bill… but once someone is bringing for us from USA so forget everything and pay $800 for iPhone 6s 64GB..

It’s my friend’s first trip abroad and he is super freaked out as he is landing back in Mumbai too this month end

Sales tax varies between 0% and 9.5% in US depending on the state to which the phone is being shipped to. Montana, New Hampshire, Delaware, Oregon and Alaska have 0% sales tax.

You did the right thing man. If at all she is randomly picked up by the customs guys they will issue a huge penalty on all the devices she is carrying. The limit for exemption is around 45k only overall and I am sure even a single device she is carrying will surpass the limit.
