How does Payback actually work? Do I have to sign up and link any of my credit/debit cards to start earning points? Or do I have to apply for a separate payback card or something like that? Is there any other benefit apart from these offers in having a Payback account? https://i.imgur.com/Q1JfLS3.gif

Its a cashback platform. Like linkis/zingoy. Only with way lower cashback percentage. So pretty much useless. Also, no need to link your cc/dc. To earn cb, you need to either go through the payback site or link your payback account on sites which have such an option (like bookmyshow)

However, there is one benefit. Unlike cashback sites, payback will give you cashback even for retail purchases too. Like your local Big bazaar etc. Your phone number will be your payback card. Just provide the number when you pay and you’ll recieve the cashback in your account. Also, payback gives cashback on bookmyshow too. Haven’t seen any cb sites providing cb for that.

There might be more use cases but I dont use it that much. Still its worth trying out.

woohoo also gives 1 payback point for every 200 Rs spend (not gift). translated to ~ 12.5 paise per rs 100.. way too less, but hey.. still something https://cdn1.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_smile.gif

Partially correct reply.
Payback(A subsidiary of American Expres) has entered into that cashback domain very recently.
It is perhaps India’s oldest multi brand loyalty program(earlier iMint), Big Bazaar, HPCL, ICICI being its oldest partners. ICICI card as well as savings account customer are automatically enrolled for Payback as ICICI reward points are in the form of Payback points. You can apply for and get a Payback card otherwise as well. Reward structure not very encouraging but sometimes they come with great offers like shop for 1000 at BigBazaar and get points worth Rs. 125, regularly Bonus Coupons section for such offers. Points can be redeemed at various places like Big Bazaar, Mobikwik, Oxigen wallet, Vodafone…..apart from its own portal for some products.

From April to Aug., Payback was giving 1500 bonus points every month to only a select users on transacting at a Pantaloons store every month. There was no minimum purchase to get 1500 bonus points.

So, I kept buying something from Pantaloons every month from April to Aug. Each transaction at Pantaloons was below Rs.375.

Now I got 7500 bonus points worth Rs.1875.
I spent Rs.1200 at Pantaloons from April to Aug.

This means that I got Rs.1200 of clothes free and also got Rs.675 extra.

Now Payback has changed minimum transaction amt from Rs.0 to Rs.1500 in order to get 1500 bonus points.

There will be a reward redemption charges by ICICI while redeeming the payback points from any portals. Like if we buy a product in ebay using our payback points, ICICI will put reward redemption charges in our Credit card for each and every transaction. While enquiring with ICICI, I said that we do earn payback points other than ICICI. They said as long as ICICI Credit card is linked with payback card, they will put reward redemption charges whether the source of payback points is from ICICI or others. Also, they do not put the reward redemption charges immediately (or following statement cycle). For me, they put the charges after 4 months for all my redemption.

So we must be careful while using the payback points, as it may carry reward redemption charges additionally, if the card is linked with ICICI.

Numerous redemptions, not charged even once https://cdn1.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_smile.gif

redemption charges are levied on payback accounts which are created through ICICI account. for accounts created through Big Bazar, Pantaloon or other sources, these charges do not apply. Redemption charge is ₹ 25 / redemption
