Had got this from here-
http://www.desidime.com/forums/hot-deals-online...

Firstly, the pics-

Three things to note-
-the back of the box says 3 years warranty. There was some discussion on whether it was one year or three years
-Its portable, smaller than the galaxy note. The phone in the background is a galaxy note which has a 5.3" screen.
-Bill was a vat paid bill

Data transfer speeds-

Write speed I got on usb 3.0 using the default Windows copier was 83mbps average

https://cdn0.desidime.com/attachments/photos/228013/medium/589632-2ptpket.jpg?1480924682

Read was also around the 83 mark, surprisingly (maybe it was limited by the rpm of my laptop hard-drive)

https://cdn0.desidime.com/attachments/photos/228013/medium/589632-2ptpket.jpg?1480924682

copying with a non windows copier gave even lesser speeds (tera copy)- 50mbps

https://cdn0.desidime.com/attachments/photos/228014/medium/589632-166gmtw.jpg?1480924685

However copying with the copier given by buffalo (turbocopy) gave speeds as fast as the Windows copier (i.e. around 83mbps)

There is an awesome feature in the hdd that tells u if the usb port is usb 2.0 or usb 3.0. If plugged into a usb 3.0, it gives a blue light, while if plugged into a usb 2.0 port, the light is green. So expect slow (usb 2.0) speeds when the light is green.

Usb 3.0
https://cdn0.desidime.com/attachments/photos/228017/medium/589632-21l75vr.jpg?1480924688

usb 2.0

https://cdn0.desidime.com/attachments/photos/228021/medium/589632-2e539mq.jpg?1480924693

All in all, a great move away from the conventional usb 2.0
Just need someone to confirm the speeds if they have a faster hard drive, my laptop hdd probably is probably limited to 5400rpm

Hi, I actually saw ur reply yesterday but was confused a bit with the write speeds I was getting.
When plugged into the usb 2.0 port, I got a speed of 60mbps at the start and then it slowly went down to 40mbps and stayed there till the end of the copy. Now getting this speed on a usb 2.0 was really surprising as you can expect speeds of about 20mbps write on a normal usb 2.0.
The read speed was constant at 31mbps.
Both times the file used was a 3gb mkv file.

So if it works at these speeds, its great for 2.0 users as well https://cdn1.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_smile.gif

Great Review Oli bhai

I have two usb 3.0 harddisks – 1 Seagate and 1 Western Digital. Your speeds look very good to me. I average 60 -80 mbps when writing via usb 3.0 and i have 7200rpm internal hdd. Via usb 2.0 my speeds are more or less 30 mbps.

Can you tell me which hard disk is inside … is it by buffalo or some other manufacture

i think for that I may have to open up the hdd…..won’t I? Probably will not do that right now, as I don’t see any screws at the bottom and may have to use some force to open it

oops sorry, i never wanted you to open the hard disk.

at the time i posted the comment,i believed that we could know about the make of hard disk by going to " device manager → disk drive → selecting the hard disk → Details tab → hardware ids " . But i was wrong and checked it only now for my external hard disk and found i cannot get the required info. But i have seen people discussing about hard disk manufactures of the transcend external hdds in other forums. don’t know how they do get the info.
