I bought this phone from flipkart on 9/8/16. Products came in advance at 11:58 am instead of 12 pm. SO i immediately added and checked out. Xiaomi claims to have sold 90k pieces in 8 mins.
It was shipped from whitefield warehouse and delivered to me on 10th.
Just simple package with bubble wrap around box and kept in fk cover.
Box has close resemblance to iphone models and is very compact.
This is made in AP, INDIA
vry well built phone with metal finishing on the back. But it is slippery so suggest u to buy case ASAP.
It is a hybrid tray and its very delicate. Dint like this part. Its not smooth to pull it out
Volume and power buttons are very sturdy and rigid. They work like a charm
Speakers are placed behind. Voume is not that high like u find in lenovo phones. It is good enough for u to listen the ringtone. But default tones are very limited. I suggest u to keep some song as ringtone. I like to listen songs only on earphones so it speaker loudness doesnt matter to me.
One thing which i liked very much abt this phone is low SARvalue. Its even lesser than few versions of iPhone.
Getting FPS in sub 10k phones is a bonus. It works like a charm in this. Since its a small phone it wont be difficult to place it correctly. Dont why few reveiwrs were not satisfied
Redmi is marketing it as 2 day battery. First first full charge lasted for 2 days with abt 15% juice remaining in it. Since it was firsttime I was tweaking out the phone for quite long time. Dint play any heavy games. Expected it to last for 3 days but it dint happen. One big drawback is battery is non removable. There was not much heating while charging like RN3. And never noticed the phone heated in last 3 days. Overall its a good battery but not outstanding as xiaomi claims.
UI has some similarities with iOS. it is like a mashup of iOS and android. It is quite smooth till now.
Only problem i faced is if i clear background apps then whatsapp and truecaller are force shut down. I added them as exception still no effect. If anyone knows how to keep them running in background even after clicking RAM boost plz help me.
icons and widgets are quite good. One handed mode is really good for ppl who like small phones.
touch is also very responsive.
In the grey model screen looks merged with rest of the phone giving it a nice look.
capacitive buttons are visible and notification LED works like a charm.
There are few minor UI issues which needed to be sorted out. though its 3 GB ram I only get to use abt 1.5 GB. I wonder how 2GB RAM model will perform.
When i first connected my airtel SIM data was only working on 4G mode. I added APN manually and then it started working on 3G as well. I kept 4G on through out the day and wifi in the night. There was no heating while browsing on 4G as i saw in odr phones. Speed is quite OK. Call quality is avg. Ntn spl abt it.
Frankly speaking camera is just “AVERAGE”. As other reveiwers on youtube pointed out htis is the best we can get in this segment. Outdoor photos look good. But indoors is just avg. It doesnt look like 13 MP but it is definelty better than odr ones in this segment. I added few indoor shots. Havent tested video recording.
Few reviewrs were not satisfied as it doesnt have 4K recording. Just 1 direct question for them. Which person on this planet would use 4K for regular pupose?? 1080p is more thna enouh. after taking more than 10 mins of 4K even samsung and sony phones get heated up. And u need dedicated 4k TVs to play them or else u have to downscale it to 1080p and play which destroys the purpose of 4K. considering it as a 9k phone I am think they have given the best for this cost.
indoor pic taken with full extent of zoom from 3 feet. u can see some noise here
close up pic of same object.(open pic in new tab to see the extent of resolution)
Testing depth of view.
Open it in full and u can read even small letters on the packet
Some other imp observations on this phone:
Battery- 1day easily even on heavy usage
RAM – more than 1 GB available almst all times so not a big problem
NETWORK- faced some small issues with data thats it
SPEAKERS- Yeah they suck
DISPLAY- Better than many 720p displays in market
SCREEN- Looks fragile as there is no gorilla glass
MEMORY- I think 32 GB is more than enough for photos and songs and other files. For movies i would suugest u to use OTG
RINGTONES-Terrible
CAMERA- Awesome in day light and avg/bad in indoors. Capturing is so damn fast
Go for redmi 3s if: U want a phone with great battery, good gaming and avg camera. But compromise on memory and ram.
Go for prime if u want battery, gaming, memory, RAM and avg camera. But compromise on bugs in UI, No 1080p scrn, fast charging, hyris slot, 4K video(not that useful).
If u want all the extra features then i would suggest u to wait for Lenovo zuk Z2 which has descent specs. It might be released in a month or so and might cost arnd 15k( abt 50% extra cost) http://www.gsmarena.com/lenovo_zuk_z2-81...hp
There are many phones in this budget segment coming up with similar specs like meizu m3, nubia z11 mini, asus pegasus 3, etc
If u r really sceptic abt xiaomi then wait for them or else u can go for redmi 3s.
Even i cant figure out why ppl r posting many negative reviews in flipkart. I dint face any issues which they mentioned except of buggy UI, avg camera and medicre speakers. But u can see that number of 5 and 4 stars is still high

@bookface Nice, detailed review! Thanks for sharing.
@bookface Was looking to buy Redmi 3s 2gb one
But now that u mentioned, saw the reviews on Flipkart. Quite a few 1/2 star reviews, from Certified buyers
Is it the same with Redmi note 3??

RN3 comes with pwerful chipset and that lead to some terrible heating issues. Its rectified to some extent now. I prefer compact phones and I wont use any high end applications so preferred r3s. morover it has 720p screen which takes lees battery than rn3 1080p scrn. Battery, compact size wise r3s, perf and cmra wise rn3

4k recording is possible by using 3rd party apps like Google Camera etc. When it comes to raw performance Redmi Note 3 thanks to its Cortex A72 cores leaves the last year flagships like Galaxy S6 in the dust. Of late Anandtech has started reviewing smartphones by Chinese OEMs. No need to look anywhere else.
For whatspp and truecaller problem.
Go to security>Permissions>Autostart>Enable whatspp and truecaller.
Also, Security>Settings Gear icon top right>Cleaner>Exceptions> Add if you are able to.
Also , In recent panel tray Swipe down truecaller and Whatsapp to ignore when memory clean.
You’re Welcome.
So here is the speed test comparision of Airtel 4G,3G,2G and wifi in my Redmi 3sP
Getting abt 10mbps in 4G and 6 in 3G. Is it normal in bangalore or should I be getting more speeds?

WOW Thats insane speed! IF they r gng to offer such speeds a 99 per GB thne there will be Mass conversions! Airtel cant even think og Ghar vapsi of its customers no matter How OPEN their network is!
I dont know whats the point in upgrading to airtel 4G when the speeds are almost simlar to 3G.
PS- DO u own a 6s plus?

Yes agree. Airtel 4G speeds are equal to 3G speeds few months ago. They just launched it forsake of publicity.
Yes, I use plenty of devices.

Airtel 4G was actually giving worse speeds than Airtel 3G a few years ago when they launched in Bangalore.
@bookface Yes, those speeds seem standard for Airtel 3G and 4G. By the way, unlike AngryHulk, I get ~20 Mbps at my home with Jio 4G. Also, Jio is definitely throttling/shaping torrents and even other downloads like podcasts from iTunes.

@bookface planning to buy one for my sis, please reply
Hi guys,
Just now i ordered RedMi 3s Prime on COD from flipkart flash sale (14th September) while buying it automatically changed seller from WS RETAIL (got out of stock) to “SuperComNet” seller. And shockingly it is saying delivery by tomorrow(15 sept). In Patna no seller provide 1 day delivery.
By the way, i want to know that , how is this seller ? Rating of this seller . Has anybody bought from “superComNet” ? There is Flipkart assured badge is given to this seller with 10 day replacement warranty.
How to take pictures using finger print sensor? Any solution for that?
Thanks for the detailed review. I am planning to buy this one for my father!
