Xperia Z ultra is a huge phone which comes with an extremely large screen of 6.4 inches. It can be described as the largest phone and the smallest tablet. The amazingly thin form factor (6.5mm) and the awesome build quality make it very attractive. The design is similar to the previous xperia devices like xperia Z. The all glass front and back design is eye catching. But what most of the people will not like is the size of this device. Its height is 7.04 inches which makes it pretty difficult to carry it around in your pocket. The device fits comfortably in hands, but owing to its massive size you can’t really operate it with single hand. Another thing which makes this device different from others is that it meets IP55 and IP58 standards. It means this phablet is completely dust and water resistant. Yeah, it’s an amazing thing. You can take this device with you when going for a swim and take photos underwater. But make sure that the sim slot and micro SD slot are closed with the flaps provided.

Xperia Z ultra is the first Sony device to come with Snapdragon 800 processor. If you know about this processor you would know how great this is. It is clocked at 2.2 GHz which is almost as far as it gets now. The device also has Adreno 330 GPU and 2 GB of RAM. So now you can imagine the speed of this device. Yes it is incredibly fast! Playing 1080p videos is like a walk in the park for this device. High end graphic games run flawlessly and there is no slight lag anywhere. In short Xperia Z will not disappoint you in terms of performance. Whatever job you give it, you will be amazed by the speed at which it will be done.

It comes with Android 4.2 jellybean out of the box. This is also the first Sony device which is powered by 4.2 version of android. It also has Sony skin on top of this. Unlike Samsung, Sony provides on screen keys for home, back and multitasking. This will be appealing to people who like pure android experience. There are many apps that are provided by Sony which you can use for different needs. Another important thing to be specified here is that, this device can be stylus operated. Unfortunately it does not come with a stylus. But you can use even pencils or metal pens as stylus. That’s pretty amazing isn’t it? The browser also works perfectly, it loads everything at a great speed and everything looks nice. You will be impressed by the speed with which it can open apps and switch between apps. But to unleash this device’s whole potential Sony has to come forward with something like Samsung’s multiwindow. Anyway Sony has done a good job in customizing android and you will be pleased to know that it’s not overdone also.

Display is where Xperia Z ultra makes its mark. 6.44 inch full HD Triluminos display with 342 ppi pixel density is superb. The viewing angles are great unlike other xperia devices. It also has X-reality feature which you can turn on to enhance the color intensity. Blacks are darker and color reproduction is extremely good. You will not see any oversaturation of colors as you see on AMOLED displays. The only downside you can say about the display is that it is a finger print magnet. However the display when you compare with other high end phones is awesome and can be said as one of the best.

The 8 megapixel rear camera takes decent photos in good lighting conditions. But the lack of LED flash is certainly a downside when it comes to low light. It also equips a 2 MP front facing camera. Anyway the camera does not keep up with other phones in this range. The shots look blurry in low light. Even if you can take this phone underwater, the absence of LED flash means that you cannot take any decent photos underwater. 1080p videos taken with this camera are good, but again in low light it looks grainy. Overall the camera quality is not up to the expectation.

This giant phone is powered by a 3050 mAh non removable battery. For phone like use with occasional calling, texting, surfing net etc. this battery is more than enough. You will be definitely able to get through a day with a single charge. But if you are going to use this device like a tablet with continuous use then you will only get tablet longevity. Power users might need to carry a charger with them since it is a non removable battery.

You cannot decide whether to buy this device or not without holding this for once. At one time you will feel that the size is perfect for viewing videos and playing games, but at the next instant you will be thinking about the difficulty of carrying this device around. Due to its large size it will definitely protrude from every jeans pocket you own. Samsung Mega is one of the devices you can compare it with and Xperia Z ultra is better in every aspect. If you are good with a smaller screen with features like this you can go for Nexus 5 and if you are looking for a tablet Nexus 7 is just half this price. Anyway if you want an insanely large screen android phone with awesome specs together with water resistance then there is nothing more to look
