[Updated on 27/03/2019] 1. What is Karma? Karma is a non-monetary reward you receive for giving your precious time to the site. It is a measurement of how much other Dimers trust you and how helpful you have been to the community. Karma is measured in ‘Karma points’ which is visible on each and every user Profile page, and also, right below the username and display picture on every post and topic on DesiDime. In simpler words, Karma denotes your contribution to the entire community and how you have helped people save money. (+Note+: We also have a monetary reward called Dimes, for contributing to the community. You can know more about them here.) 2. How can I earn Karma points? On signing up with us, you get 20 Karma points from DesiDime. After that, the best way to gain Karma points is to keep posting great deals and coupons, starting interesting and useful discussions, and helping members of the community, in general as well as in making informed and best shopping decisions. You will not get Karma points on simply posting deals or comments; they should be truly worthy, helpful and valuable to the community. You might also gain Karma points by up-voting others’ posts. +Note+: Don’t try to acquire Karma points. Post great deals, help others find great deals or guide them in buying the right stuff, and let Karma points simply be a reminder of your legacy. 3. How can I give Karma points? You can start giving Karma points only after you become a Deal Cadet (explained in Question 4). To give Karma points to a fellow Dimer: Check below their username and display picture on their post; click on the plus sign besides the third icon and figure displayed there. A popup overlay will open, where you have to add a comment and select whether you want to give the Dimer ‘Positive Karma’ or ‘Negative Karma’, before clicking on ‘Give Karma’. 255103NqFGBk0 Other Dimers will vote and comment on your topics/ posts/ deals to gain Karma. Who gets Karma points from you is totally your decision, but we recommend you to be fair, keeping the best interests of the community in mind. However, once you have given Karma to a user, you can’t give Karma points to him/ her again until you have given Karma to 14 other users. Also, you cannot give Karma to yourself. How people treat you is their Karma; how you react is yours. 4. How many Karma points can I give to someone? Your Karma Giving Power depends on your Rank. Ranks are titles given to users at various stages of their participation in the community. Your Rank is decided by the Karma points you have earned so far. Everyone starts out as a Deal Newbie with 20 Karma points received from DesiDime on signing up, and then as you receive Karma points from other users and reach new thresholds you move up the Ranks. E.g. A Dimer needs 100 Karma points to become a Deal Cadet; 1000 Karma points to become a Deal Subedar, and so on and so forth. Currently there are 11 Ranks to reach out for. Here’s a table showing the 11 Ranks, how many Karma points are needed to reach each of them and what is the Karma Giving Power of each: 25510315676dt So, basically, the Karma you’ve earned dictates how much Karma points you can give to others. (You will be able to view all these Ranks on your Profile page. You can visit your Profile page by clicking on your username in the top right corner of the site, after signing in.) 5. Who can give Negative Karma points? Negative Karma points can only be given when you reach Rank 5 (i.e. when you become a Deal Major). Your Rank and your Karma are a mark of your contribution and your reputation in the community. So use them wisely. As they say- With great power comes great responsibility. 6. Why would someone give me Negative Karma? You may receive Negative Karma for re-posting, spamming, self-promotion, being offensive, posting topics in wrong forum, posting referral links, posting deals from worthless sites, using inappropriate title for the deal/ topic, starting fights in the forum, and other such reasons. Basically, you are likely to receive Negative Karma if you do not follow basic forum etiquette, and if you threaten the decorum of the community. 7. Should I worry about Negative Karma points? What if someone decides to spoil my reputation? Each and every Negative Karma point given requires a well defined, valid reason and it is moderated. Thus, there should be no fear of receiving unfair Negative Karma by someone. Don’t worry, good karma always stays with you. +Note+: Receiving Negative Karma may lead to going down the Rank levels. Also, Admins and Moderators do not need to be Rank 5 and above to give Negative Karma. So beware those who do not follow the rules, someone is always watching. 8. Can I beg for Karma? Should I ask for Karma? Karma is earned, not begged for. Begging for Karma is a sure way to get negative Karma from Admins and/ or other members. Repeatedly begging for Karma points can lead to blocking your account from receiving or giving any further Karma points, and even account suspension eventually. This also applies to any user, who is found asking for Positive Karma through Personal Messaging or other means. 9. I don’t understand anything. How does it all matter? As we said, Karma points only show your reputation in the community. If you don’t understand anything yet, simply be nice to the community, contribute through good deals and helpful insights, and the community will take care of the rest. Good Karma always pays. 10. What happens after I reach Rank 10? Nirvana.

Cheers to Admin team for new system and best wishes for a successful rollout!

I need one clarification – What about the entire concept of posting deals and earning dimes? The new system nowhere talks about the monetary rewards. We have some deal collectors who post deals daily (viz Daily deal section) and take off. IMO their contribution is also pretty vital in the entire DD ecosystem. What’s in it for them?

@harshk – The Dimes system will continue to remain as it is.

I think you have chosen to use a big word Karma for a small thing. I do not like the dimes concept as well. I hope you guys have done homework on how these forums have been in operations e.g. Anandtech and fatwallet.

Hello guys,

In probably a week’s time, we would be rolling out the new Karma system – a new way to identify and reward the stars of DesiDime and make the forum a more helpful place to be when one goes shopping..

h1. 1) What is karma?

Answer: Karma is a measurement on how much other DesiDimers trust you. And how helpful you have been to the community. Karma is measured by “Karma points” which will be visible on each and every user profile page. Karma points simply denote your contribution to the entire community and how you have helped people save money.

h1. 2) How can you get/ give karma points?

Answer: On registering at DesiDime, you get 20 karma points from DesiDime. (Existing users will get 20 Registration Karma points too) Once registered at DesiDime, the best way to gain karma points is to post great deals and help members in the community. You will not get karma point on simply posting deals or comments. You cannot give karma to yourself. (How people treat you is their karma; how you react is yours.)

Other users will vote on your post/deals to gain or lose karma. Once you have given Karma to a user, you can’t give Karma points to him again until you have given Karma to sufficient users

Note: Dont try to acquire Karma points. Post great deals, Help others to find great deals or guide them in buying the right stuff, and let Karma points simply be a reminder of your legacy.

h1. 3) What if my deal goes to Front page Deal(F.P.D.)?

Answer: DesiDime will reward you with 20 karma points per FPD.

h1. 4) How much Karma point giving power will I have? How is Karma Categorized?

Answer: There will be 11 new Levels/Badges up for grabs based on your Karma points….

https://links.desidime.com?ref=forums&url=https://i.imgur.com/ZuGAa.png

Your Karma Points power dictates how much karma points can you give to other users.

h1. 5) How can I progress to the next level?

Answer: You will need a minimum number of Karma Points to reach the next Level. For example, One needs 1000 karma points to become a Deal Cadet, 15,000 Karma points to become Deal Major and 5,00,000 Karma points to be the ultimate Deal President.

h1. 6) Should I worry about Negative Karma points? What if someone decides to spoil my reputation?

Answer: Negative Karma points can only be given by users above Level 5. Each and every Negative karma points requires a well defined reason and would also be moderated. Dont worry, Good karma always stays with you.

h1. 7) When can i give Negative Karma points?

Answer: Only When a user reaches level 5 (i.e when he becomes Deal Major).Use it wisely. “Because with great power comes great responsibility “

h1. 8) I am a Deal Captain right now. So will I start from there?

Answer: Sadly No. Our system will automatically find your karma points from your interaction so far within the community. We will provide more details shortly but yes, your deal title will be adjusted based on your current Karma points.

h1. 9a) Can I beg for Karma? Should I ask for Karma?

Answer: Begging for Karma is a sure way to get negative Karma from Admin or other members. Repeatedly Begging for Karma points can lead to a block on your account after which one cannot receive any further Karma points nor can give karma points to anyone else. If any user is found asking for +ve karma through Personal messages or other means,he/she shall be suspended or banned from the Karma system completely. Earn your Karma & don’t beg for it.

h1. 9b) I dont understand anything. How does it all matters?

Answer: As we said, Karma points automatically shows your reputation in the community. If you dont understand anything yet, simply be nice to the community, contribute back with good deals and helpful insights and community will take care of the rest. And dont forget, good Karma always pays.

h1. 10) What happens after I reach level 10?

Answer: Nirvana

PS: Comments/Suggestions are welcome!

@ Admin : One question : Who is giving karma to whom, will it be visible – as it would result in action and reaction (both +ve & -ve)…https://cdn0.desidime.com/attachments/photos/203120/medium/255637-8553.gif?1480838008
