Received it yesterday. Here’s a quick review: Used it today. Build quality is reasonably good. It comes with two grill trays (different dimensions) and a tray retrieval tool. 12 Ltrs may sound small. However, one must remember that the usable area of this oven is in a circular shape instead of a rectangle. Which further means the the usable surface/volume is much higher than that available with a conventional or a microwave oven. So, it is big enough to roast a duck(yes, a duck and not only a chicken) in along with some veggies yet small enough to be stowed in any corner of the kitchen. It heats up fast. So, there is no need for pre heating. Since a fan circulates the hot air, the cooking is very even, quicker, and most importantly – keeps the moisture in the food. Also, the heat is applied more evenly than is applied by a conventional or a microwave oven. It is easier to clean since the base and the side walls are made of unbreakable heat resistant glass. This also means that you can see your food from all direction and not just from the front as is the case with most ovens. It cooks quickly, evenly, without drying the food, has a small form factor and is not noisy like a microwave. It can also be pre programmed for different cooking processes. I will be trying more foods in this oven and will add to this review if required. I am more than satisfied with this purchase. Lastly, this is for those who have already bought the oven - Use the sterilize function when using the oven for the first time. Press sterilize and then press the start button. The oven will operate at 190 degrees for 13 minutes. After this, run the oven at maximum heat (250 deg celsisu) for 5 minutes to remove any trace of odours or smoke. You may see some smoke in the oven at first use. You may also smell something burning. This is the excess lubricants in the oven burning off. That is why it is important to follow these two steps. Happy cooking! |

Thanks for the review, satdeep..hope to have a more detailed one along with recipe experiments soon. From what I’ve read, the weak point of this device is the halogen bulb which can get fused in case you drop the lid etc. I’ve been trying to find out how much a new bulb costs, but Usha CC has no clue. They asked me to call up the service centre but those guys are not picking up the phone. Did you find this out before you bought? Also, what is the max. temp, 200 degrees celsius or 300? |
hey thanks for d review dude !! |
Hello, Sam. Very good points. I did in fact look into replacement for halogen tubes. I do not want to jinx myself but my research showed that they generally do not fuse easily since it is a filament. Most car headlights are halogen and they do not fuse often (Unless it is a padmini or an ambassador About dropping the lid, this is where this product shines. There are other products on the market where one has to lift the lid completely. In this case, the lid is attached to an arm. That arm is pushed back and it locks into place. If you push it back and hear the click noise indicating it has locked into place, I doubt it will fall. As an aside, I grilled mccain aloo tikkis today evening. It took around 7 minutes to ‘fry’ these. I used no oil. It maybe noted that in this case the total cooking time was 7 minutes. While deep frying in oil, the time taken maybe less but that is only the cooking time. One still has to pour oil in a utensil and wait for it to boil. I also discovered that these pre-prepared products already contain a lot of fat. In my case the tikkis were dripping with oil despite my not having added a single drop of oil. One can surmise the health benefits from this method of cooking from this experience. Plus, easier to put in this oven than pour oil in a pan, wait for it to boil, deep fry it, drain the tikkis, then store the oil and finally clean the pan and the cooking hob. Reading back I almost sound like a marketing executive for Usha Home Products but I can assure you that it is not so. I am just happy with my oven. Lastly, the maximum temperature that it hits is 250 deg C. |
