You don't need 3rd party apps for ZigBee devices you can buy a ZigBee gateway that can control all ZigBee devices you have.
You also don't need to be connected to internet to control devices locally in you wifi network.
ZigBee, has it benefits but you can't find ZigBee devices in India and what we have is way too overpriced so it's not worth Investing money currently.
