Why do cheapo tricks for cloud storage when you can make your own cloud for any capacity with easy to install cloud apps

Buy a raid or pie. Use any old hard disk, microsd, or any 3.1USB above 64GB.

Install own cloud. Use it for life.

I pulled a 500GB HDD from a laptop to replace it with SSD. That stores all my photos and video. Can use it from anywhere.

I have installed owncloud on HDD.

I have used SeagageHDD enclosure to connect it with a Pie on USB port. The pie is connected to wifi at home.

I have kept this box on top of almira in my bedroom where there is no risk of water of physical damage.

My wifi router as well as cloud set up is connected on invertor point. So I never had outage in last 18 months.

I backup photos from mobile to HDD through cloud (internet) only.

But I have failed to do 2 things

First, I have installed no smart de-duplication software, so there are many images and video duplication and

Second, I don't have one touch back up software. So after connecting, I manually copy the content on cloud server

Here is the link, for owncloud, but sync feature does not works well, You will have to back up data maually. Pricing & packages for ownCloud enterprise filesharing

Take a raspberry pie. Get an enclosure. Attach any storage device (old hdd, ssd, pendrive sd card etc depending on application)

Install Linux and cloud application.
For cloud app either you need a personal ip so you can log the url from anywhere or you can use their IP address that can connect dynamic ip of your internet provider.

Now all the data that you put in the sync folder of storage can be accessed from anywhere in the world also you can put in more data on to the cloud without touching the hardware.

You need a monitor, keyboard and mouse in the process of installing Linux and the cloud app on the pie. once install you don't need anything you can simply remove the monitor and the keyboard and turn on the Raspberry Pi it connect to the Wi-Fi automatically

I bought the Raspberry Pi 3 year ago from OLX only for 600. The engineering students buy Pi for their projects. it's of no use to them later. The only thing that you need is a storage.

Choose your cloud application wisely and it should be free forever

And more the feature better it is . Few apps also have the mobile applications that can automatically sync your photos.I am myself planning to change my app because it cannot remove the duplicates. This is a lengthy process for non technical person like me. Can take any thing between 4 to 8 hours
