VU GLOLED 50 inch review . During the Rebuplic Day Sale had got the VU GLOLED 50 Inch TV for 27k.
Is VU GLOLED really an innovative technology made in India and how is the VA Panel Quality ?
False claim made by the VU CEO Devita Saraf . It is a good quality panel with brightness exceeding 400 nits. And this panel is the same VA panel used in Hisense A6H / Hisense Tornado 2.0 A7H & Toshiba C350 LP . And yes it is one of the brightest panels in the market . I have reduced Backlight to 60% and still it is up there says a lot about the Brightness of the display . Anyone buying the TV must adjust the Backlit to somewhere between 50% to 70% depending on their individual preferences & lighting in the room as keeping it on 100% is too much for a 50 inch screen.
Why did u go for VU GLOLED & did not go for QLED ? QLED is anyday better than normal 4K VA / IPS panel ?
The budget category QLEDs do not seem to be the best product in the market . You can say that Blaunpaunkt QLED or Thompson QLEDs are the better budget ones out there but honestly these brands service network & after sales experience are questionable and I have not had any experience with them. If u trust these brands you can consider the budget QLEDs as well and compare them before concluding QLED or GLOLED / Hisense A6H/ Hisen A7H .
Having said that the best budget QLED in my option is the last years Hisense U8G or the VU Masterpiece ( rebranded Hisense U8GQ ) . These are true QLEDs with Full Array Local Dimming with 64 seperate dimming zones also the VA panel atleast on Hisense U8G is better than the IPS for deeper blacks. ( QLED + VA PANEL + FALD is one of the best combinations ) . Hisense U8H / Toshiba M550LP are rather disappointing and inferior in my opinion purely because they have reduced the dimming zones to 28 from previous versions 64 dimming zones which would provide a better control plus the IPS panel used in Hisense U8H will not be able to control blacks to that extent as VA panels. Having said that I guess Hisense U8H supports gaming at 4k 120 HZ with VRR & AMD Freesync support so probably for gamers I guess they could go with U8H
You can also check out the QLED offerings from TCL I have not gone much into their offerings but I guess the TCL C725 does not offer FALD .
Also manufacturers extended warranty plans for QLED is more expensive than normal VA /IPS panel so that was another consideration.
Why did u go for VU GLOLED 50 inch & not 43 inch or 55 inch ?
The VU GLOLED 43 Inch is a completely separate product and it must not be confused with the 50 inch and above offerings . You must check a real review of the 43 inch TV and compare it with others before making a decision and do not judge based on the other reviews of 50 inch / 55 inch
VU GLOLED 50 inch and above are similar to Hisense A6H / A7H / C350LP except that Hisense A6H / A7H promise IPS panels above 55 inch whereas VU provides only VA panels.
In all honestly , IPS provide better viewing angles but for deeper blacks VA panels are better especially for budget friendly products as they cannot match the LG IPS black levels . U must also decide the TV size based on the distance from which you are watching so it could be a consideration.
Installation
I had got it from Amazon with the Installation at the time of delivery. The Wall Mounting Brackets are in the box and the installation is free. I would suggest that if available always opt for installation at the time of delivery as incase of any issue with the panel you can immediately get a replacement than in case of Open Box Delivery where we confirm the product is fine based on physical looks and without turning on the Panel and checking the same
Picture Quality
The out of the box picture quality was not to my liking . Picture quality you need to play with the settings and find the correct picture quality to your own liking taste.
You can start with one of the default picture modes which you consider the nearest to your liking and start changing them to your liking. Also its not the most realistic picture which human eyes want so it is absolutely fine to have a bit of oversaturation but not to the extent that it feels out of place.
If you want to calibrate your Picture Quality like a professional get the below software and tweak your settings. However , in my opinion this is an overkill for a normal consumer but someone who is really interested in color calibration should check out the same

Some basic calibrations tools which can be used are mentioned here https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/5-online-tools-ca... & https://www.eizo.be/monitor...t/ apart from the Youtube videos which give some tools
These tools can be used to test your picture profile which u had configured and do small tweaks if u find necessary.
Additional Settings for Picture Quality
1. Color Temperature - Avoid Keeping it at Extremes either keep it Mid-low or Medium
2. Motion Enhancement - Very Important .Tweak as per of your liking using one of the presets or you can also do a Custom one to adjust to your liking
3. Noise Reduction / Digital Noise Reduction - I prefer to keep it low to reduce the processing
4. Active Contrast - Either Keep it Low or Medium. My personal preference is Medium . Avoid extremes again
5.Flimmaker mode - Keep it off
6. Low Blue Light - I keep it off . If u watch only at Night time in dark environment you can keep it On
Backlight settings.
1. Dynamic Backlight Control - Off
2. Backlight Level - 50% to 70%
3. Automatic Light Sensor - Off
Sound Quality
Again something to your liking . However I tweaked the sound settings same as provided in this video and it was good to my liking .
Issues
1. Panel is excellent quality . The backlight bleeding from the sides on grey background is similar to the video linked above and it is normal for any panel to display a bit of light from edges especially on grey backgrounds where it gets pronounced . Too much light bleeding or uneven patches on TV is a matter of concern some of the calibration test linked above will help identify those
2.Reddish skin tones on 4K Video on Youtube . Seems to be an issue with Youtube App as SmartTubeNext works without any issues
Specifications
The processor as shown in AIDA64 is m7632 . m7632 is a processor by Mstar and is apparently same as Mediatek MT9611 . It is 4 cores Cortex A55 @ 1500 MHz & GPU is Mali G52 GPU . Mother Board codename is his9612 & Device is songshan ( I guess even Hisense A6H / A7H would have same the board name and device id ) . RAM is 1790 MB & Storage is 16GB out of which around half is already consumed by Google TV. Most of preinstalled OTT apps can be uninstalled except some like Youtube.
OS & Performance
3.Google TV OS is way better than Android OS or Linux OS with voice search capability across apps , during typing in keyboard as well as UI . Google TV App enables to control the TV via your mobile and it is excellent . Also you can turn off & on the TV from Hibernate / Sleep mode using Google Assistant voice commands itself
It comes with Android 11 with June 2022 Security patch
While opening a video there can be a very slight delay felt but I guess it is more to do with the system applying the settings and digital processing based on the source of the video HD / HDR / HDR10+ / HLG / Dolyby Vision and it is not something which will disturb your viewing experience.
Also I have a high confidence that the software version of Hisense A6H / A7H can be used interchangeably on these models especially if their board and device names are same .
Other Features / Tricks / Points
1. Far Field Microphone is excellent atleast for the timebeing. But if data security is a concern it is better to switch it off as we dont really know what data is being transferred to Hisense China servers
2. Turn on developers options and reduce the animations to 0.5X to have faster animations
3. Find Your Remote feature is a good feature .
4. No updates since probably launch . I guess Hisense is incontrol of the software updates but like I said there is a high possibility of flashing Hisense A6H / A7H firmware and it will still work fine .
5. I cannot test the DTH performance as I am not using DTH / Cable services. On apps 1080p & 4k content look too good . 720P videos also are good but you cannot expect the 1080p clarity from those.
Let me know if anyone has any other questions . Also most of the points for my review of VU GLOLED 50 inch should also hold true for Hisense A6H 50 INCH / Hisense Tornado 2.0 A7H 50 INCH & Toshiba C350LP 50INCH with the differences majorly if any in the Sound Quality department
@playdime @aam_aadmi
I was in search of a new tv as my old one was already 4 years old and I wanted to dispose it off in working condition before it gave a panel issue and got me nothing . I was getting resale of around 60% of my Purchase Price for my 4 year old TV on OLX and it was a no brainer to dispose it off in working condition.
I went offline to my nearest Reliance Digital to check as I did not trust the so called youtubers who sound biased towards one brand or another and hardly anyone does a proper TV review in India.
Also the International version of the TVs vs the one sold in India have differences with the same model number so relying on the international quality reviews on rtring did not make sense .
I checked out the Hisense A6H 55 inch vs TCS P735 55 inch vs the models from LQ UQ7500 , Samsung Neo or Crystal and I must say the Hisense Color Science was pretty much close to the LG TVs at least in the store settings they were kept on. LG one was the best one , but a 20k retail store price difference did not make sense. Samsung Color Science was somewhat similar to TCL .
I came back elated thinking I must either get the Hisense A6H or Hisense Tornado A7H essentially the same model with a sound bar but without far field microphone during the sales. I saw the some online reviews by youtubers to get more details on pro/cons towards Hisense and I was elated I was on the right track ..
Then started checking out the product reviews when reality struck me. I was seeing multiple issues with respect to the Hisense A6H & A7H models and my first impression was oh its expected from the Chinese guys not known for quality but who cares we have 2 years company warranty
Some issues with the most common ones.
1. Remote is not working
2. Panel Gaps and light bleed from edges especially in the A6H / A7H where they have a Floating Glass Display
3.Panel backlit bleeding from the edges
4. Panel going bad in a few months
However, the concerning part is the people have questioned the brands own warranty . From installation to service experience people are struggling and this kind of made me concerned. On one hand there is this budget TVs which is almost equivalent to bigger brands at 1/3rd lower price and on the other there is concerns over their servicing.
I quickly moved over to Twitter to check and I read a customer complaint that the Service Request was marked as completed for the 9th time without resolution . That just sealed it for me . In no way I want to give my money to Hisense and I cant just bet they will improve their services anytime soon . Seems they are just doing the things the Chinese way. Dumps good products with low durability and are least interested in customer service ( I fear such things with these Chinese and so called Indian rebadged Chinese EVs as well ) .
Again Toshiba being a Hisense brand it was out of contetion. The TVs from MI & Oneplus were outrightly mediocre in the bigger 50 / 55 inches in the Reliance Digital outlet and so I dint not consider these Chinese OEM offerings. Acer again had horrific reviews about the user experience so it got ruled out. So I though I was left with none but to go with Samsung or LG whichever gives a better offer. My preference would have been Samsung only for the better durability than LGs though it can be debated as a personal preference of a brand.
However then I came across this VU GLOLED which was at a very good discount. It was unveiled at the BBD sales and again it had excellent reviews. I saw that the company had a launch event and were having talks claims about it having a new GLOLED Technology with a layer similar to QLED. I went like when did VU start making such good TVs. Then I digged a bit deeper and found that these are just rebadged Hisense TVs . The VU Masterpiece QLED was a rebadged Hisense U8GQ and this made sense the VU GLOLED was a rebadged Hisense A6H / A7H . What I knew atleast they had a better service network in my area and I would have a service assurance and the company warranty could be extended.
I started seeing the reviews and the VU GLOLED again had excellent reviews. The 55 inch one was a VA whereas Hisense A6H /A7H was a IPS so i dint want to risk it. So I played going safe with a VU GLOLED 50 inch panel which costed me 27000 + 3000 in extended warranty.
VU was essentially the same 50inch Hisense VA panel in A6H /A7H alongwith Far Field Microphone with a similar setup of Hisense A7H 104 watts speakers but also with a SubWoofer . Also the frame was used from Toshiba QLED M550LP which had 2 benefits it was not a Floating Glass Display so the panel gap issue would not be visible as the glass panel is tucked inside the frame and the overall build quality of the same is better ( https://toshiba-tv.com.au/product/50-m550lp-s...s/ ) check the difference in weight plus the size of the backplate of Hisense vs the VU / Toshiba panel .
And to top it all up I know I had to deal with VU customer service which I rank as better than the untrusted Hisense . You may need to adjust the color and sound settings a bit but once done to your liking it is an amazing buy.
TLDR : Hisense A6H/A7H is a good product but Hisense service is extremly poor. VU GLO LED is essentially the best of Hisense A6H/A7H with the VU customer service experience and provides additional brand warranty for 3k +GST for 2 additional years.
