Good deal but useless product. I was expecting iphone to track AirTags and show me directions even when I am a bit far off but directions are shown only when I am less than 10 feet away.

even the alerts we get when we move away is few mins delayed many times. We would have moved a lot far from the tag by the time we get alert.

Sold them back on OLX 10 days later after I got them during BBD last year

These have their unique use use case scenarios for sure but they need to be in close proximity of any random Apple mobile devices  to connect and share their location with the owner  ( through low energy Bluetooth Bluetooth and internet)

For people who want bunch of AirTags this is a very good deal plus1

Only when some other Apple device comes in close proximity.

suppose ur tag is in luggage bag with no internet connection. i have android phone then it will not send u signal?

now suppose i have iphone but my phone’s mobile data and bluetooth are off so how will it share location with you? even if my iphone’s data and bluetooth are on then wont it ask for permission from me to send u signal?

last airtag will use my iphone’s data and bluetooth to send ur iphone a signal thru my phone or thru airtag itself?

I think @raghupro; already answered your questions in short.  But Let me go through them one by one.

First of all the AirTags work on something called Decentralised mesh network (of Apple devices). Think of each iPhone (also iPad and iPod touch) as a cell phone tower and each  AirTag as a cell phone ( mobile phone).

Incase it’s your AirTag in close proximity then you can track using only Bluetooth too.

1) No this doesn’t work yet with Android AFAIK ( As far as I know)

2)  Yes you need Bluetooth turned on for AirTags to communicate to iPhone. Incase it’s not connected to internet At that moment it can store the location data and send that data when internet is on.

2)  AFAIK You don’t need to give explicit permissions  for this mesh network to work. But you might need to give such permissions to the tracking app.

……….

After ( thousands of)  instances of  people using AirTags as spying and stalking tool, Apple  has changed some of policies regarding AirTags. And may do it again in near future, So keep that in mind.
