Stocks in general are not that liquid. You have to wait for three days to get your funds. While in gold, it is instant. Sell and immediately get hard cash.

For stocks, money will reach your hand as per settlement, but gold can be sold and immediate money can be realised. May be this is the logic. The graph is talking abt trading volume. My two cents.
