5 Months back 12+256gb came at 36k with exchange (buy any undamaged phone at 2k-3k for exchange) and 45k without exchange

Mostly bad options in this price range. Just a few thousands extra can potentially net vastly superior devices. Redmi 10 Power seems a decent option for tech savvy users especially as a fair few AOSP-based custom ROMs are available. Somewhat Pixel-like software experience at a fraction of the price.

His existing phone is moto g5s bought from amazon in 2017

8GB variant of Redmi 10 Power was available for 10k after all offers a few days back. MIUI doesn't do well with 6GB RAM as per @guest_999 nevermind 4GB RAM or less. Apps from the FB group with the exception of WA are memory hogs unless their lite versions are used which are handicapped in some ways. Best option is to use them in a browser in more limited devices instead of using separate apps. Helps cut down on the idle battery drain in particular.
P.S. I couldn't find any really good options for my father even in the 15-20k range. Instead I gave him my Poco F1 as a replacement for the stolen Redmi Note 10 Pro and pocketed Poco F4 for myself!

Just a suggestion try to consider Realme c55 in the Realme website, now a days Realme phones are getting good, getting value for money to, if you prebook there is some offer going on website it's around 10500 somthing
