A day without Mobile or Internet !! Can you do it??

As we all know how essential digital technologies have become in our life from the moment we wake-up and till we go to sleep. Specially mobiles (with internet) where we spend majority of our time or I will say all of our time even for many or most of people it’s pretty hard to spend literally few minutes/hours without it we get a little glimpse of it whenever our battery dies or we are out of internet I am sure you have felt how useless those time feels like. So I don’t think it really needs much explanation.

We are actually highly addicted to them now without even knowing as unlike other addictions we really can’t see or feel it since the effects are not short-term or maybe not visible clearly also since now these things are really-2 helpful or even part of our daily life (work, education etc) hence we easily ignore them or don’t understand.

So here’s a task or challenge or whatever one can say. We have to spend 24 hours without these things (mobile, laptop, tablet etc) and then we share our experience here the next day.
Also since we know it will be quite impossible at least for some to be 100% isolated as we have to take calls or other very imp. stuff but the point here is to use them only when it’s very-2 necessary & being conscious of the usage.

It’s gonna be pretty hard, much more than one can anticipate at least who uses them regularly since in absence of them it will feel very empty hence will increase the temptation to use them even more.
I will suggest getting involved in other activities like cooking, a walk or drive, reading books or time with kids and family or hangouts or whatever but avoid watching Tv or meeting with friends/family where nowadays we only meet and again use our mobiles.

I myself will be doing this from 12 Am today. Actually, it was in my mind for quite a while so I thought it would be great if we could do this together.
Those who will be doing it just mark your participation by commenting “I am in” and those who can’t do it for a day may try it for a few hours (4-5 hrs) or can try later on or just enjoy the experience of others later on.

I am sure it’s gonna be fun.

Leave your thoughts down in the comments.

I have done Vipasana yoga, where for 10 days, participant is not allowed to use any phone, laptop or any other electronic device. Participants are not even allowed to talk to each other, you have to stay in the campus for 10 days and meditate 10 hrs a day. You are only allowed to speak to the mentor for 5-15 mins a day, if you have some query or difficulty.

Foods are provided on specific times in the food hall, there is a bell to indicate that. And all of these are free of cost. One should attend atleast once, before you are engaged in family life.

Maybe you can fill me in with more info like how to register and all other stuff so I will try that too. Will appreciate it.

Just visit J&K State/Vaishno Mata.

No prepaid sims from outside j&k will work.
You wont have network , a smartphone without a network i believe is already 50% useless.

Go have a darshan ,enjoy the journey/nature’s beauty.
Fresh Air and a good 18km journey by walk for darshan.

People can visit other places too in n around j&k.

I have already done that bro quite a times not in j&k but in uttrakhand (even at better places I would say) I know it feels like being in some other world.
Check this https://www.desidime.com/discussions/query-trav...
But it can only happen once in a while.

@Ash One think i would like to mention is i have tried similar things earlier like the one you have mentioned.

I will tell you few things that i observed

1) Biggest gift that humans have is the tendency to adapt to thing/ getting used to it.
(Like a child will get used to going to school/a person going to office when wfh is over)
All it takes is a few days and human brains gets used to it.I will definitely say people have become addict to mobiles but it can be handled.

2)If you have something as a task or goal you will eventually achieve it.
(Something like if you have a focuson something very seriously or you have a goal for it .You tend to focus on it and kind of forget everything around the world).

That’s right bro but first we need to know we are actually addicted. It makes us feel like we use it for important stuff only and we barely realise the addiction

I do this once every year on the last (also most important) day of our festival smile

More than 6-7 years back, one of the very influential saints of my religion had presented this idea during a prayer meeting, have been doing it once a year ever since.

Why don’t we start a show on this concept, but the duration should be 3 months or 6 months and Desidime should sponsor and the winner gets 1 CR.

BTW it’s really a good concept.

As mentioned by others it’s need to get the salary 😄 & on sat Sun I am booked to finish tasks assigned by mummy or watching something…

On the other hand when I see children Playing games on mobile /laptop (like my nephew) I remember my days of playing games with friends with full of sweat like kho kho, pakdam pakdai, chuppam chupai (these names hv their own feelings) standard badminton cricket & basketball sometimes & what not even kanche.🤭.
& Cycling in the morning & evening for no reason bt at full speed in that sweet air & everything that a 90s child might have enjoyed (sorry for going off topic) ☺️☺️

Yeah bro those memories are too good.
Hard to say today if all this is really good or bad for them. Only will see in future.

As part of my job, I had often traveled at places for several days with zero internet and choppy or no mobile connectivity. It actually is very peaceful. Of course, I did carry my kindle with me.

A day without internet (broadband)? Nope, not possible for me.

A day without PC? Nope, not possible either.

A day without mobile? Where do I enrol? Make it a week or fortnight.

Anyhow, I did have to live many days/ weeks without any internet on mobile phones when I was working our business as I would be in places where there was no 3G services. After whole day’s work those empty and daunting evening time when you had nothing to do …. terrible. Did enjoy the quiet of remote places though, but only for a day or two.

I took an unplanned self-challenge of 30 days abstinence from internet & mobile last month. Did not feel anything missing while I was at it or any kind of great achievement after completing it. Just did it on impulse.

Sorry guys for delayed update. Actually I did write it very next day but due to some issue all got cleared after typing and I got bit lazy after that.😅

Here’s how it went. It was not that tough for me although it made me realise how deeply dependent we are on these things.

Day was way longer than normal it felt like some sort of time-dilation experience even though I engaged myself in activities like reading book, a bit of sorting things, some cooking and started calesthanics excerise which I wanted to do from long time and did some more stuff couldn’t belive
all that happened in a day.

Since I was empty many times I got some extra self time had some talk with myself which I usually do but this time no distractions also experienced a lot around myself & had thought about them too which we usually miss & actually enjoyed it.

It was quite fun to see people all around busy in there phones be it a street, park anywhere and really felt ackward.

Night was a bit hard specially few hours after eating dinner but I managed to skip it and slept early and woke up early too which really felt good.

Overall it was good experience it was definitely not like we do when we go somewhere but it was really different since it was in my daily routine and definitely hard.

I had to decide everytime whether it’s really important to use my phone for this thing or not and I actually didn’t used it almost (only few sneak peaks for call and some other stuff like payment etc.)

What I think we can do with this activity if done for few hours once in a while is to reduce our dependencies by understanding our usage eliminating where it’s really not required.

There’s lot to tell but I guess even I have already written a lot so will end it here.
Thanks again.

I didn’t use internet at all yesterday. Wasn’t difficult in the least. It came as a great relief that my passion for reading books is still undiminished although it had certainly waned over the last 2-3 years.
