Quite laughable step if it comes true (Which doesn’t seem so). Every govt has quite a charming past favoring $$$ players. Surely some exceptions will be made. Investors are not fools.

Has it got anything to do with the 2019 polls?? Are the questions by experts, as small traders would benefit from the move if implemented

Govt ne Amazon and Flipkart ko mana kar diya ki aap log khudki sites pe khudke brands ke products nahi bech sakte.

Amazon jaise apni site pe Solimo, Amazon basics, Symbol etc ke product bechta hai.

And Flipkart khudki site pe Billion brand ke products sell karta hai.

Yeh band hoga. Yeh koi chinta wali baat nahi hai humare liye. Because hum log jyadatar in-house brands ki deals ko nahi loot te.

There won’t be any impact on sellers like Cloudtail because both Amazon and Flipkart distributed the sales among various sellers when this 25% rule came into effect around a year ago. Now, instead of WS Retail, we have OmniTech, RetailNet etc.

These are the major points:
1. No more private labels like MarQ, FK SmartBuy, Solimo, Symbol etc. – Not a big issue.
2. No exclusive sales of Xiaomi, Asus etc smartphones. – This is actually good. Flash sales might disappear.
3. Cap on discounts – This is still a grey area and not well defined.
4. No more Plus, Prime membership – This is bad. A lot of people pay extra to get more convenience/features and there’s nothing unfair in that. If you have a membership of a club and get discounts on lunch/dinner then what’s the problem?

Prime or plus membership will remain the same.

Bhai there is difference between Promotion and Using superior Position to drive competitors out of Market by selling at losses which these Ecom sites do. I was against Jio’s 1-2 Year Trial just because of this as they were giving their services on losses. It was good for customers but will eventually lead to Industry under heavy losses which they are. This selling goods and services at loss to drive others to bankruptcy to remove competition will eventually only harm consumers as only big players will remain and they may collude to drive the prices up through cartelisation. Jio because of not having to invest in 2G, 2.5G, 3G and 3.5G had less Capital Investment than other players. The players who couldn’t survive shut shop like MTS, Virgin, Tata, Reliance, Aircel etc while the one who could are facing heavy losses to the point that Loans to Telecom Industry could turn NPA.

Same is going on in E-commerce business as the new business are selling at losses leading to Brick and Mortar who had invested heavily to lower sales. TBH As a customer I feel that I cannot live without discounts hell I can’t afford to buy some brands whose products now I have. But from Industry and Individual perspective its unethical, illegal and has very big social cost. Still feel bad though for myself and others.

They’ll give discount but we can’t find any huge discounts on sale time they’ll give in normal days as price error….

Then they ( Flipkart and Amazon ) might help eachother out on this issue and sell eachother’s product. Or Just change the game by disguising their brand name products through some new 3rd party brand name. Let’s see.

Pro Critic Pro Critic

Changing the name is not going to help. They simply cannot sell products of any company if they have invested any money in it.

I think than they will give gift vouchers at great discount.

Or they will simply sell their inferior products at low price.

Now look at the bright side, keep looking for any deals on in-house brand products. These brands will dump their stock on dirt cheap prices. scream

Sooner or later it is bound to happen, No govt can ignore the demand of millions of brick and mortar shop owners complaining about such unhealthy competition in form of deep discounts/Cashback. And in long run it will have negative impact on our economy/society, resulting, closure of thousands/millions of established brick and mortar shops, and their affected families by loosing earning of live hood. This could be biggest loss for us/Our Nation by getting discounts/Cash backs, from these e-commerce sites until the brick and mortar business is finished. I agree that its not easy for us to forget these so called temporary discounts till the closure of brick and mortar business, But also shouldn’t forget/play the future of our millions of brothers earning their live hood from brick and mortar business. I am sure that these eCommerce players have very-very big Budget/Patience/Time for destruction of very old and trusted/loved brick and mortar business, the pillar of our Indian economy.

The very same brick and mortar shops that fleece and dice you every chance they get? I went to the local super store and could not even get answers. Not only that but they wanted MRP for everything and gimmicks for discounts. On top of that instead of using company service personal, these shops wanted to use their own cheap installers and delivery etc which were beyond subpar.. I am talking about appliances where they make 10-20K on the product.. On most everything I have bought locally I feel cheated. I paid such huge margins for no service at all. It was like just throwing money at these shops. I rejoined when I see some of them closing up shop and going out of business. Although in some cases I feel bad because the service provided was really great and she offered many options and gifts etc when i got a laptop. She offered, not I bargained to add this and that etc.. She also offered special service like drop warranty and extended warranty etc instead of asking for more money. In another shop when I paid rs500 for something that was sold everywhere for rs75, I was told I was paying for quality.. Like that 425 extra would somehow magically make their own product superior.. I suppose many others also did not buy it and they closed in a few years.

Not many of these shops offer the customer anything. The vast majority will say a lot of things but after the sale wont help or even provide servicing. What do we lose if they go out of business???? Even if we end up paying the same, service form like Amazon is far better.. And that is not just for now. As we see in many OEM brands they provide same level of service instead of having to depend on these local shops.

Once again government gonna fail in this case when they hit court. Amazon & Flipkart not profiting anything from these discounts. Suffering so much loss to gain loyal customers. If they’re profiting actually.. thosee local retailers & government’s point have some merit. But amazon will say..we have some business model & u have no right to stop us. Give me 1000 crores for all our losses.. we will stop giving cashback then

You understand the decision is not against providing discounts and cashbacks. It’s against favouritism. Being a marketplace, they cannot discriminate among brands.

OMG! Wth! This is a complete surprise! This is awesome news for sellers! Amazon used to compete with the sellers on many popular products by undercutting prices for low quality stuff under solimo and other brands. This has been their USP since the beginning and Flipkart was forced to do it as well even though they didn’t want to because of heavy losses. This is a great move by the Modi government!

Amazon India marketplace has 1.8x more operational revenue than Flipkart. >>

Interesting point to note that, either govt people are not looking at current market trends or the joke is on us. sunglasses

Its all about OPTICS with regards to coming General Elections in 2019. Traders are the core Vote Bank of the current govt. So such announcements are the general norms during these times. Implementation is what will take time & legal hurdles. In India there is always a law to bypass any ruling or take it to litigation to drag on for years.. Political party will take credit that they made this rule but what about implementation….

People in favor of Brick & Mortar shops should understand the reality of them especially in smaller cities where there is an absolute monopoly of a very few traders. They never offer good discounts & have larger than God attitude. They also have limited selective products & one has to choose from these sub standard (Less Features) product. Few years ago I wanted to buy a BOSCH Washing Machine & there was only ONE DEALER in my city. I paid 27.5k for a 5.5 KG Washing machine which sells for 24k on AMAZON (MRP was Rs 30k then) … They did not had delivery to my location then… The seller gave me a huge discount of Rs 500/- on his asking price of Rs 28k after haggling… If there were a local competition then I would have got a better price. Not same as AMAZON but still better than my current purchase.

Now come to FMCG part where the sales & casahback are more prominent & regular. India is a huge market & can cater to its mass population very easily. When Reliance Fresh started in my city Uma Bharti came with her supporters & bashed it completely. After 10 years I’ve seen more smaller shops opening in my locality & Reliance Fresh is still here. Even Best Price & Big Bazaar set shop in my city. Hell many Reliance Fresh outlets did not survived in few localities.. Now here is the best part, majority of Indians do not purchase from online stores. Most even use those candy-bar dumb phones. E-Commerce companies broke the existing MONOPOLY of traders but most will survive ‘coz the size of market is so big. Yes their profit from looting customers will be limited. I met an electronics vendor selling AC’s this year complaining that he was only able to sell ~170 units of split AC’s ’coz of competition & this seller did not had a huge showroom but a shop of ~175sq ft. in a back alley complex….
