Hi,
I recently faced issue that while i was travelling i got SMS that Rs.718.85 transaction done from my credit card.
I was shocked that currently i am travelling and didn’t buy anything that how it happened.
I did contact to my bank and they said that transaction done from Amazon.
On contacting Amazon they said that the transaction is done from Amazon.com USA so please contact them.
I have never purchased anything from Amazon.com and they are not providing any detail that how this transaction done.
International transaction doesn’t require any OTP or CVV number so I request all of you to be take careful and remove credit/debit card from Amazon.

Please find below chat part from Amazon India:

_Mohana: If you have registered an email with Amazon, then the same email address will be registered with all our international partner site.
Me: so you want to say that my credit card detail will also be shared with them?
Mohana: All transactions are made on our secure server at Amazon.in. Our secure server software (SSL) is the industry standard and among the best software available today for secure commerce transactions. It encrypts all of your personal information—including credit or debit card number, name and address—so it can’t be read as the information travels over the internet. All of our credit and debit card information is stored on a secure, dedicated database.
Me: tell me only that my credit card saved in Amazon.in shared with Amazon.com. correct?
Mohana: If your card is registered in Amazon india, it will also be registered in Amazon.com. And also auto renewal option is not available in Amazon India however the option is with Amazon.com. So, I’m requesting you to contact Amazon.com_

Amazon is not at fault. Your card details is leaked or hacked somewhere. There is no fault of amazon.

before few days Amazon confirmed that transaction done from my saved Credit Card and for my Amazon.in account but Amazon India saying we don’t have any detail for transaction.
One more than the card was renewed before around 1 week of that doubtful transaction and i never share or allow to see my credit card because i knew that international transaction doesn’t require OTP or password. I never swipe my credit card anywhere as well.

main thing is they are accepting that they are sharing credit/debit card with Amazon USA.

Just now on Amazon chat the executive told that the amount deducted is for Amazon.com Prime membership. I was enjoying Amazon Indian Prime trial but by mistake transferred to Amazon.com account and auto deducted. https://cdn1.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_eek.gif
so contact Amazon.com for refund. Amazon India can’t help on this https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_rolleyes.gif https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_cry.gif

There’s only one amazon account, amazon.com / amazon.in / amazon.co.uk …. arent different entities.
So all your address book and card details will be shared
Based on your region one will set as default (for kindle purchases)

There’s no way you are charged for the amazon.com prime trial
There are like atleast one or two confirmations before you sign up for amazon.com prime / prime trial

What’s there to be careful here?
Login ID and Password are same for amazon accounts of different regions, unless someone is aware of your credentials nothing can be done

Its not Amazon your card has been compromised. Raise a police complaint and block the Card.
2 of my friends faced similar issues and their card was used in US at various places like McDonalds, medical shops etc. both of them had ICICI card.
I issue was resolved by ICICI and for second case police case was filled as the total value of transaction was more than 25-30K.
Raise the issue with you bank and tell them to do an Inquiry.

You should be thankful that he used only 700rs .
Have you ever used your card details on public WiFi like airport restaurant ? Or compromised WiFi network . then too it can be hacked . amazon in don’t use https and anyone can see what you entering on payment page .
See video of techwiser .
Using CC DC or even net banking is safest in PC incognito mode . and worst choice if you use public WiFi .

Yes, amount is small so not much worrying.
the card was renewed before around 1 week of that doubtful transaction and i never share or allow to see my credit card because i knew that international transaction doesn’t require OTP or password. I never swipe my credit card anywhere as well.

and I only use credit card on my personal laptop only because of threat of spy program on other computer. I also use Avast Premier on my laptop. it’s firewall and VPN is good.

@getready
The guy is not joking. He seems to have made a mistake regarding prime.
As getready said i was charged for 99$. It came to about 6800Rs. that time.
and yes amazon.com doesn’t say anything regarding prime, it doesn’t send a mail even that we are charging for prime subscription.
I was exploring amazon.com once and by mistake subscribed for free trial of prime there.
Instantly 72Rs. were deducted. Those were to verify my credit card.
I though ok not a big deal but after a month wen i forgot prime, i saw a message that 6.8k have been deducted. They auto activated prime for 1 year without any consent. no calls, mails nothing.
I immediately cancelled my subscription and was issued a full refund.
But the problem was that i got 6.1k refund only. Rest 700Rs (6800-6100) weren’t sent. This might have been due to tax, currency conversion etc.
Now as you know 700 is too big amount for dimers, i contacted amazon everywhere, india,us etc.
They refused the difference saying we have issued a full refund(99$). You take care with your bank regarding difference amount.
Banks pe to i never had hope and that too sbi. they will never help you.
At last, i sent an email to jeff bezos and then got 10$ refund back to my bank account.

so yea he does have a point dont save you card info at amazon.

The operation style of Amazon.com is different than India.
If person like me don’t want to use card internationally because of no OTP/password even CVV, but unknowingly Amazon.com makes it international.

You understood that amazon.com subscription doesn’t require CVV too so they keeps CVV number saved. at least first time transaction for other item purchase/subscription must ask for CVV but here it automatically deducted amount even i provided CVV for some other item purchase on Amazon India.

Rest is up to you keep it saved or not.

@EzioAuditore This is the same everywhere right?
Most of the streaming services follow the same thing and so will amazon india in near future

BTW even i got some 700rs less when i cancelled prime after prime day but was too lazy to contact anyone after 1 support interaction https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_toungueout.gif

Edit: And OP here is saying that he only opted for amazon india prime trial but got charged for amazon.com one , he doesn’t even remember logging into amazon.com account not even once

I agree and i don’t have any grudge for amazon.
It’s just that they weren’t clear enough.
I mean there weren’t much details that they will charge automatically after 1 month.
I know this system exists for streaming services but i feel amazon should have been more clear regarding such things.
Eg- hotstar has the same model but they mention every details.
Amazon just debited without any consent. At least a mail would have sufficed.
Thank God for jeff and their customer services that i got money back.
Otherwise i had no other option.

Edit:And OP here is saying that he only opted for amazon india prime trial but got charged for amazon.com one , he doesn’t even remember logging into amazon.com account not even once
That’s correct, op isn’t much clear what he did

see this is amazon.com chat just did before few minutes. (without any new word added).
It was technical error. it’s up to them who are blaming that i could have done something wrong.
I am just sharing my experience. so any user take care in future. amazon.in will simply send you to amazon.com.
and if user got in trouble with some big amount, you can understand that its not easy to deal. and its not always happen that you get refund.
and at least user will have to suffer cost of sending document instantly to bank , reissuing blocked card etc.
Edit: it will cost me around Rs. 500 for blocking and reissuing card. and some courier charge for express delivery of document to bank to head office.

You are now connected to Nitish from Amazon.com
Nitish: Hello, my name is Nitish. I’m here to help you today.
Me: I am customer of Amazon.in
in amazon.in, there was my credit card saved but somehow amazon.com made some transaction from it.
so strangely amazon.in customer care suggested me to contact amazon.com
i just wanted to know that is there any active subscription on amazon.com (it should not be because amazon.com subscription does’t matter here in India)
Nitish: As I can see your charge was $10.99 for Prime subscription. But it has cancelled already and we have refunded your money
Me: ok thanks. and now that subscription is not active correct?
Nitish: Yes , subscription is not active.
You can check with your bank.
Me: thanks.
other thing
How my credit card saved in amazon.in accessed by amazon.com?
even without cvv
Nitish: Well, all server are same. Sometimes it happens due to technical error. I apologize for that .

There’s no leak of anyone’s card information. Payment details at Amazon are shared across all of its domains.

One good tip is to disable international access on the cards that have been deposited at Amazon.in to prevent these kinds of periodic authorization checks
