I just completed another year with american express, and I was charged 4,500 + 810(GST) on my gold charge card in the statement generated.

Untill now from my 7 yeas of charge card with them, I got them wavied 100%. I called up customer care, and requested for wavier.

The available options they gave me are

  1. They will credit 10,000 membership reward points in my account; this is equivalent to 3,750 in statement credit. So loss on pocket by 1560/-
  2. Adjust 12k reward points from existing MR points and adjust the wavier to 50%

I asked what can I do to get 100% wavier, and the representative told, there is no guide line we have at this time. The above options are kind of applicable for everyone for this year due to change in business conditions(covid may be).

I took option#1, and got 10k points credited.

Did any of you experience similar in recent times?

All the banks waive annual charges they charged ?

I don’t think axis gives fee waivers.

Most banks does. They do it based on business they get from the card holder. After all its the business they get vs a few hundreds in the name of annual charges.

My icici hpcl coral card is burried deep in my card holder. I hold this card from 2011. Earlier I used to use it for fuel transactions. With amazon/amex/hdfc cards, this took a back seat, and just yesterday the statment is generated with annual charges. I called them today, and the rep told me I can request for closure only after I clear the dues(annual charges). I asked him to connect to retention department. With no questions asked, I was given the wavier.

For my amex platinum card they always wave off against 10K points equivalent to 2.5K as they verify if all milestone was reached, any ongoing milestone that I have reached etc along with free 2 platinum addon card and 3 gold card (1 primary n 2 addon) for lifetime free till I am using platinum card

waived off on how much spends on your card in last 1 year

I guess – The RBI Ban on new business might be a bigger reason for this fee charge and/or partial waiver.

So no need to achieve yearly target for waiver?

I am with Amex for almost 6 years now, this card is 3 years old now, I politely requested them to waive off the fees, they said they will consider but cannot guarantee, and in a couple of days they informed me saying they decided to waive off the fees completely

I’m with amex from 2012, starting with payback card. The moved to Gold Charge around 2015 retiring payback card in 2017. After retiring payback card, availed MRCC card as companion. Until now the wavier is processed with no questions asked. But this year it is different. So wanted to understand if they are genuine with the mentioned reason.

Yes. I recently called SBI for my wife’s simply save card. I got it waived off without any pressure.

Well its quite possible I’ll be in the same boat as you then, the travel card is their hotselling card so maybe they have approvals to waive it off 100%
