amex membership fee charges in the recent times

I just completed another year with american express, and I was charged 4,500 + 810(GST) on my gold charge card in the statement generated.
Untill now from my 7 yeas of charge card with them, I got them wavied 100%. I called up customer care, and requested for wavier.
The available options they gave me are
- They will credit 10,000 membership reward points in my account; this is equivalent to 3,750 in statement credit. So loss on pocket by 1560/-
- Adjust 12k reward points from existing MR points and adjust the wavier to 50%
I asked what can I do to get 100% wavier, and the representative told, there is no guide line we have at this time. The above options are kind of applicable for everyone for this year due to change in business conditions(covid may be).
I took option#1, and got 10k points credited.

All the banks waive annual charges they charged ?
I don’t think axis gives fee waivers.
Most banks does. They do it based on business they get from the card holder. After all its the business they get vs a few hundreds in the name of annual charges.
My icici hpcl coral card is burried deep in my card holder. I hold this card from 2011. Earlier I used to use it for fuel transactions. With amazon/amex/hdfc cards, this took a back seat, and just yesterday the statment is generated with annual charges. I called them today, and the rep told me I can request for closure only after I clear the dues(annual charges). I asked him to connect to retention department. With no questions asked, I was given the wavier.
For my amex platinum card they always wave off against 10K points equivalent to 2.5K as they verify if all milestone was reached, any ongoing milestone that I have reached etc along with free 2 platinum addon card and 3 gold card (1 primary n 2 addon) for lifetime free till I am using platinum card
I guess – The RBI Ban on new business might be a bigger reason for this fee charge and/or partial waiver.
So no need to achieve yearly target for waiver?
Why not use paytm rent payment to achueve free
On my platinum travel, i got two options.
- Pay the fees 5000+900 (GST) , we will give you 10000 points which is worth 3000 FK voucher. Loss of around 2900
- Debit 10000 points & full fee will be waived.
Option 2 is the best for sure, however last time they gave me a better offer to spend X amount within Y months & then get waiver. No longer available. Also full waiver is also not available.
@dummyuser how did you get full waiver? Are you sure they didn’t deduct 10000 MR points?
I am a 100% sure they did not deduct any MR points for me
