An experimental way recover corrupted pendrive(might/might not work)
Edit:This will erase data suggested by @deb3l bhai.
So, I removed my pendrive, while my laptop awoke from its slumber. I plugged it in again and it was showing the drive letter with nothing to show about storage etc. I tried using diskpart commands. list disk, select disk 2(assuming disk 2 is pendrive), clean. It threw some error and I gave up on the pendrive.
Yesterday, I used rufus to write Ubuntu image on another pendrive. It booted up alright. Then I shut down my PC and on next restart the Pendrive was corrupted. It wont show up in file manager and diskpart could not touch it. So, I tried to rewrite another iso on it by rufus, and I cancelled the operation in the middle. The pendrive is now working guys. I tried 4 different corrupted pendrives, they all work now except one.
So, guys try this and tell me what you got.
steps:
- download and run rufus
- need another bootable iso
- try to write the iso on the corrupted pendrive
- If it succeeds then cancel the operation in the midst

If you feel up to it, you can have a dekko at this small, old, but fairly robust utility called H2testw by Harald Bögeholz.
long back, came across it http://tpb.ee/user/maxfacto...0/
and seemingly the FTP download link of the compressed file still works🙂 ftp://ftp.heise.de/pub/ct/ctsi/h2testw_1.4.zip
okay, just checked… even the worldwide web-site too still is very much active https://www.heise.de/suche/?q=H2testw&sort_by=relevance
It is a simple utility that worked fine at-least for the (flash) media and (magnetic) drives of that era.
Helps do enough troubleshooting.
Seemingly, some users discussed or mentioned it as useful http://tpb.ee/torrent/4437316/utility%20to%20te...
[email protected] used to be the on-line contact of Harald Bögeholz.
Though they/he also had/has other great utilities, like those for formatting.
personally and as a matter of principle
i prefer formatting flash media, thumb drives, SD cards by using the recommend utilities released by SD Association itself (as opposed to using the native ones on operating systems; say Windows OS).
These ought to be more attuned to do the job, in my view. https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter/

Bhai copy the contents of the pd to your pc. Try this method. If it fails buy a new one.
You are lucky that Rufus is detecting it. Whenever I deal with this kind of crazy stuff, they go beyond Rufus way. In my case, linux or partition tools is the only to-go solutions. I’ll keep this in mind next time I mess any drive
Yes. Gparted is very powerful 🙂🙂
Well similar happened with me but the pendrive was not even showing up and in the disk management it was there but no option to manage the partition.
After a long search and headache I was able to rewrite the drivers with the help of a software and pendrive is working fine.
The process of finding correct driver for your pendrive is quite hard I had tried everything and lose hope but this one really worked out.
Driver you mean for your computer right? I beleive if you uninstall the usb drivers and hit the hardware scan button, windows will automatically detect and install
Rufus is my all-time favorite ISO tool. Now this is another good way to make stuff work.
Thx for the twitch bro. 👏 Don’t have any dead PD to experiment. But will definitely gonna try this if it comes anytime. KP!
Typical windows weakness in handling corrupted boot drives, it is always recommended to use a live linux install to check to rule out any software related issue because if the issue happens even with live linux then hardware is at fault.
🙂🙂 I bet a lot of people have thrown their pds thinking that they are bricked. 2 pds I recovered had data, they got corrupted because of improper removal methods. Now they work like a charm. Maybe some bug in Win 10.
Will this step work for laptop Hard drive.I converted my old laptop hard drive into an external hard drive but it is not getting detected. I want to recover the data from it.
Brother, this method ll erase data. 😔😔
Oh Mahn this Rufus always too have problems for me. I too had similar problem when i was trying to mount my file on Rufus but somehow i did it right lol.
Easeus recovery tool try kro
You missing anything here bro?
I mean kindly mention how 4 of your PDs got corrupted at 1st place?
I strongly believe that most of them were rendered undetected only after you made them bootable via Rufus. Isn’t it?
Asking as it happened with me last month and Rufus only was the culprit. Although I fixed the issue somehow.
Used Rufus a lot.
Never faced this issue. Hopefully this isn’t the problem with Rufus.
@bikidas2060 bhai I forgot to tell you one thing. Creating bootable pen drive often is not recommended as it involves a lot of random 4k read write which is much more taxing on any storage drive compared to sequential read write(few large size files like some movies etc).
The real Rufus..

I have a pendrive which has all my important files in it. But i am not able to add, move, edit or delete any file. It’s become kind of a DVD now.
I am not able to format the pendrive too.
Any solution?
