Another UPI Scam

Somebody i know was duped of Rs 5000 recently.
He was looking to book a taxi and one of the taxi driver asked him to fill a google form and send a text message to a particular and only then his bookings will be confirmed.

Google form asked him to mention his name, bank account number and his upi pin (He shared upi pin thinking that just like card transaction, there will be an otp to authorize the transaction. He was new to all this)
The message was a text message (just like required when you register for any UPI).
Luckily just as he received a debit message, he blocked all further debits and nothing more happened.
The person has filed a complaint to cyber cell, to his bank and as well to taxi driving company (not taking name here). Do suggest if anything more needs to be done
My question being how come he had the exact same text required to be sent for upi registration and is it possible to register from another device not having the required sim, just by sending the message from first device having sim?

Scammers are trained , so be alerted and be safe you can’t imagine what will happen , so don’t keep more money in bank account which you use online , keep more funds only in non- online usage bank account & track records regularly like monthly -→ quarterly -—> Yearly & verify it and if found something suspicious then immediately bring it to the notice of bank manager and if needed then contact cyber crime officials too !

i too had a similar experience . I made a complain on Twitter tagging flipkart n mentioned my phone number . The next thing, I got a call from scammer pretending to be a flipkart executive. he told me sir you would be receiving a message shortly n asked me to forward it to his number. That was upi registration.

I told i’m out of balance, I would forward if he recharge my number smile
