Hi All,

I am suffering from severe ADHD since 2019 and taking medications for it but seem not much effect yet, recently visited a health care person and he informed that due to me being careless about ADHD, I am slowly developing OCD within me. I didn't paid much attention back then cause the course they were suggesting to get enrolled was damn expensive and I thought it might be not worth paying that much amount for mere small issue but now feeling like it's been increasing or maybe it's just that health care person playing with my mind to make me enroll for the course.

I took their consulting service felt good and was quite affordable xD

Was just wondering If someone going through same thing here on DD too

P. S : If someone finds this thread irrelevant or useless, please feel free to ignore it or If you want to more satisfy your mind & heart & just ignoring don't work for you. you can vote down and move on. Thanks.

Course is an offline one in the nearby local private mental health center and asking 18K for 4 months, I attended only consulting there for Rs 600 just to check what exactly it is.

For what I have learned after my recent visit to that person, it is like a pattern a person follows again and again. It is a pattern of fear and thoughts that causes or leads us to take action. If ABC fear kicks in, then an OCD person follows XYZ patterns that his own mind has created for him, and if it doesn't, then that fear boosts like a rocket.

I had observed such things happening within but never paid much attention because, like every other OCD person, I used to follow a XYZ pattern to get temporary relief for myself.

During my recent visit, they gave us a diary with many sections, similar to a self-help diary. If fear (obsession) kicks in for ABC, we need to write down the trigger (what happened around that time when that fear kicked in), and finally, "If fear kicks in for ABC, what is the repetitive action (compulsion) you do to get out of that fear?" Let's say I write XYZ.This allows us to track which fears are triggering, when they usually trigger, and what compensatory behaviors, i.e., compulsion, we are engaging in to break free from the obsession.

I have recently discovered OCD within me with the help of that doctor. I don't know much about it yet, since it's just been a week. But, whatever that doctor said, I agreed with him because I have been observing this repetitive behaviour for many years within me, even before losing my job in the pandemic.

The exact same thing happened to me. This all started back in the year 2019, (maybe it was there before that as well since they say mostly it comes from childhood, but maybe I wasn't very educated about it before). Later that year, the pandemic occurred, and I lost my job; I mistook it for depression and assumed that it would go away once I regained my job.I got the job, and now it will be gone in a few weeks once I spend some time in the environment, but nothing changed, everything was temporary. Once I disconnected from the job environment and came back home, all this stuff used to travel with me. I feel like crying even while typing these, because it is very painful stuff, Some people think it's all maan ka behm, but it's not like mental diseases exist.

I'd like to share a story with all of you. When I was in school and used to go to private coaching there, I had a good physics professor who used to tell us a story about a man who lived in a foreign country and was able to see a lot of humans around him, The people he used to see were either alive or had lived on this planet before, but he didn't know how to differentiate who was real and who was an illusion, so he had three people with him all the time. If all three say yes, then only he used to talk with that person.

I shared this incident. Yes, mental diseases exist, but it's not always maan ka beham.

It will be great if u can add some more details like link of the course if it's online else provide some contact details if it's offline.

It will be helpful for some and also saves you from multiple dms.

I have ADHD but due to good medicine unavailability in India , I'm just living with it.

Used several useless medicines and nothing worked.

Bupropion Extended Release+Fluoxetine used to work upto some extent but due to stomach issues I had to discontinue it.

Got treated for OCD.

Earlier I myself tried using ERP but used to fail, but then medicine + monthly follow up/consultation + little efforts on my own worked.

I can say, it is not curable 100% but I feel I'm 70%-80% better than before and can carry day to day activities without any intrusive thoughts that used to affect me earlier.

Methylphenidate is available in India although very few psychiatrists can write this medicine on prescription.

I think it is when  we try to be more perfectionists  in things , or are in loneliness or reserved  person , or have some or any kind of insecurity  or fear  , or over sensitive  , or have careless  people around   etc  leads to such disorders.

+1, bro; I've spent a lot of money on medications too in recent years, but nothing has worked out well. Almost all of the medicines I tried were prescribed, but none of them worked, and I later felt like it was a waste of money because nothing worked as described on the medicine or as the doctor had said during the prescription.

I'm glad to hear that you managed to come out of this, brother. Well played! and congrats.

Bro, If you don't mind, would you please let me know what medicines followed? It was my first visit to the doctor with regards to the OCD

They only told me this much, and they have asked me to write down the majority of the fears, triggers, and compulsive behaviours I discovered within a week. I might visit them again next week to share everything I have noted with them.

To be honest, I was not able to determine whether it is depression or ADHD, I just assumed that it might be depression due to the loss of a job during the pandemic year. It was the doctor who informed me that these are the signs of ADHD and OCD.

According to the doctor, in ADHD, anxiety remains high, with frequent mood swings, such as every 15 minutes, being very impulsive and losing control over self-behavior, then body movement every now and then when fear kicks in, and worst of all, being unable to focus even for 3 minutes. It's like the USP of ADHD, during ADHD, we can't focus on things even for 3 minutes.

Although people do have some of the symptoms mentioned above, that is not the case with me; mine are at some higher levels, and all the things people say about having these symptoms and getting rid of them quickly were never the case with me; I am carrying all of this stuff with me from my childhood after so many treatments.

OCD—as I have explained, and I have tagged you there too, it's like a repetitive pattern of thoughts.

These days, even a small thing like the sound of an incoming SMS on my cell phone triggers my anxiety; hence, my cell phone is on silent mode.

Maybe or maybe not, bro. I am not blaming you in general, bro, but I think sometimes we disagree with something because we haven't observed or felt it. There are some things with which you may not agree with me because you haven't observed or felt them, and there will be some things with which I won't agree with you because I haven't felt or observed them. Maybe it's just our human tendency, and hence I am not blaming you. It could be one of the other tricks of doctors to get money out of our pockets; perhaps it is a trick of doctors because it originated in the Western world, but I am somewhat inclined to believe it because I have observed such symptoms within myself that were mentioned, and some of the things mentioned there worked for me; as we do in OCD, we follow a pattern to get temporary relief; perhaps I am doing that, but then again, these things are quite difficult to explain because they are something unique to us.

I remember when I was a kid and I used to run away from playing video games because I didn't understand where all these thoughts were coming from or why they were coming to me, and when I was unable to understand, I used to run to play video games.

+1, I agree with all the words you mentioned; most of them match my personality. I had many careless people around, which made me oversensitive about everything, due to which I stopped making new friends, became lonely, insecure and started being reserved. I still have careless people around me, but so much has happened over the year that I have limited my engagement with such people or completely stopped talking to them. I know they might not like me suddenly stopping to talk with them, but I think sometimes we need to care about ourselves first and then give priority to what others will think of us.

On top of that, I've had this obsession with being perfect since childhood; maybe that was one of the triggers that snowballed over the years.
