Anyone using BLDC ceiling fan & are they really silent/less_noisy than regular induction ones?!

So I really need to replace a ceiling fan in one of the rooms as its starting to make this very slight annoying noise.

My primary preference is to have some super silent model. Its fine even if it doesn’t last for years or so!!

I just happened to checkout Atomberg website and leaving all the technicalities aside, they claim BLDC is supposed to have less sound than regular models and all…

So just thought to ask here & hoping some folks could help out in making the choice on should I go with BLDC or its just a fad!

Budget: <=5K

Thank you.

Get a BLDC fan with remote. I have one and it is less noisy. Also lighter than tradition fan. Not sure how long it will last.

It is just a fan. Worst case scenario, it will stop working after few months. Not the end of the world. Not very expensive as well. Get one and experience it yourself.

Be it induction motor or BLDC motor, the motor noise is negligible unless there is some issue with internals (bearing/coil etc). They do produce some sound when running, but with the fans attached, and the sound from air throw, the sound from motor is not audible. The air throw sound is something which cannot be silent. It it is really silent, then there is not enough air throw there.

Precisely.

For our extended family in Nerul itself, we opted for the then newly started Atomberg products. (Since Atomberg too has their unit in the MIDC near Nerul-Turbhe).

Althought the initial marketing and after sales support was okayish, the product innovation curve of theirs left a lot lacking (in our personal view).

The weight too, as someone mentioned above, is actually immaterial now. Most fans brands (not BLDC but wall mount with remote and ceiling mount) that we too bought in past years.. had already started experimenting with composites and fibers to replace metal components.. including fan blades themselves.

Maybe the air dispersal volume and sound too gets (somewhat positively) affected by the design quirks of using polymer or composites (as opposed to use of aluminum and other metal alloys)
even at the cost of durability in the face of the impacting debris or objects, use of key structures entirely made out of light weight (lighter than similar metal components) composites or fiber-polymer blend, is pretty common, acceptable now.

I have atomberg fan. Sound is similar to normal fan. But power savings and latest premium models have alexa support too.

Ok.. looks like BLDC ain’t so special if the parameter is in regards to sound confused

Is it the motor spinning sound you are bothered of or the air throw sound?

It says something like ‘2X more silent than metal fans (@52dB)’ but again the reviews aren’t so endearing to take a plunge on this one flushed

Sound is same in bldc

Its the ball bearing in your fan that’s creating the noise. There are two of them 620X. Get both of them replaced with good quality ones. Replacement is pretty cheap. Your fan will become noiseless like it was when you bought it new or even better with good ball bearings. BLDC or not, the airflow is the noisier component. Want to test? Remove all the blades of the fan and switch it ON.

@rockinfreakshow You may consider changing the ball berings. You may also check with the repair person if bearings are the only culprits in your case

I bought atomberg renesa 1400mm, there is no motor sound and air delivery is also satisfactory. However, the motor was wobbling considerably and amazon only had return option available at that time, so i got motor replaced from the brand. The new motor they sent is a refurbished one and has defective LED light and scratches on the motor, also instead of wobbling the new motor is now tilting the fan upto 4-5 degrees angle from the ceiling. I have now placed a replacement request on amazon.
In short, buy some good brand bldc fan and not atomberg.

Blade = sound so look for bladeless fans

Tech Guru Tech Guru

Blade less fans do have blades but hidden inside. Blade less fans use other aero dynamic principles to get good air effect. Since the blades are smaller, the sound will be lesser. More over Blade less fans are confined to desk, not really meant for covering wider area like a room

If you are in mumbai adani has restarted the DSM Scheme after about 6 years.

You will get 5 star energy rating bldc fan for just ₹1365 with free installation

i have the atomberg one and there is no noise if you install it properly(did it myself). there will be that sweep sound(not noise imo) at max speeds of the blades cutting through the air. controlling it with a phone that has IR blaster and the fan taking 10-15 watts at 2&3 speed setting without even making the sweeping sound make this a big deal for me.

Even I am constantly tempted to buy these bldc so called smart fans just to try them but the fans in our home are not giving me any chance to try. They have been running from last 20+ years without a single repair.

Just get the old fan oiled, greased and serviced by a mechanic shop. If some moving parts need change, get it done, will be cheap and temperatures have also been falling so you can bear without the fan for a few days...

I personally think BLDC still needs ~2 more years to mature and graduate to being reliable fans just like what we have today (non bldc). Let the technology and design mature...
