I think there is regulation by RBI to provide option of setting transaction limit, disabling tap and pay etc.
And According to me only tap and pay upto 2000 can be done without otp/pin

You already got axis fk card? On which other card basis as I thought you had only one card against fd & less than 3 months old.

I guess that’s an additional feature on these cards which we have i.e. contactless payments. Not sure if we can disable it.

You can use it since its completely safe since the merchant needs to enter the bill amount adjusted in their POS machine and then ask for your card. I really like that feature though toungueout

So i don’t think there are chances of any fraud happening here.

Yes, some banks like ICICI and DBS have the option to disable tap and pay in their app

Ask axis bank customer care, there should be definitely an option to deactivate it.
Either through netbanking or app or phone banking.

Yes you can. In fact on some cards it is disabled by default & on other cards where it is enabled & you never use it after getting the card then it will be automatically disabled after a few months. You don’t have to worry about its misuse because contactless transaction can only be processed by a specific card reader machine which is not something anybody can get & the money involved in contactless transaction can only be transferred to a financial entity setup with full KYC & various other details(like GSTIN etc) so not like some upi/bank acc fraud where anybody can setup a fraud upi/bank acc using fake voter id/ration card etc.

As per RBI instructions every bank should have these options.

I haven’t tried disabling “No OTP” for contactless as that’s the only time when OTP is not required as far as I know. The only option I could find in my ICICI mobile app was to disable contactless payment altogether.

I agree. Your concern is valid.
Merchant enters a figure in the machine and the payment is done in an instant. You don’t get a chance to see what merchant has entered. Its human to make errors. What if he made a mistake in entering the figure (even if it is less than 2K). Then all you can do is go into correction mode.

I use contact-less transaction because it is much safer compared to unnecessarily entering the pin & as for mistake by the merchant, you don’t have to worry about that because the amount is not entered by them(at least not in branded superstores like MORE, Big Bazaar etc) but it is auto-entered by the billing software which calculates the amount based on barcode scanning & the amount entered in the billing software screen(so only mistake can happen at this stage.e.g.cashier entered 4kg instead of 3kg as weight of vegetable). If a mistake is made by the cashier in entering the wrong value in billing software screen then it doesn’t matter whether you used pin based or contact-less transaction because both will need same resolution(aka cashier correcting the receipt right there assuming you noticed it before leaving the store).

At least in POS machines where I have to enter the PIN, I can mostly if not always see the value entered by the merchant on the machine. This is one level better than contactless.

Same system is there in contact-less machines too. Nowadays branded supermarkets only use machines which also have contact-less tech so nothing is different about them from the older pin based only card reader machines.

Ok I get it what you are trying to say but I have seen many merchants who pass on the card reader machine to customer only at the pin entering stage at which point you can’t see the transaction amount.

I did not knew about disabling feature.

So, once I bought some medicine in apollo pharmacy around 1-2 year back with my new tap and pay credit card.

And he did not ask for pin. I was like F*.

Then i searched google youtube, some was using blades and all rubbish tricks. But gradually I cooled done as limit is 2k per day and it can be done only in pos machines.

But disabling this feature would be a nice.

If some can create a thread @FighterMan containing details to disable to tap and pay for each bank cards

It is not some special feature, just go to whatever card app/acc you are using & then go to manage limits/similar section where you can set limits for domestic/international transactions etc & there you will also find the option to set contact-less transaction limits/enable/disable.

Also it can only be done in POS machines connected to a financial entity allowed by rbi to process contact-less transactions so it is not like just anybody can get their hands on a contact-less enabled card reader & set it up with some random bank acc/company & start accepting payments.

I have disabled contactless payment for both ICICI card and DBS card from the mobile apps. When the shopkeeper asks, I simply ask him to initiate charge normally in the machine and then let me enter the pin.

you dont need pin/otp till 2k, if you activate MOTO transaction on merchant websites.

Visa Checkout: The easier way to pay online. Register once and enjoy single click payments. No OTP for transactions up to INR 2000. https://www.visa.co.in/pay-with-visa/visa-check...

Mastercard Click to Pay: https://www.mastercard.us/en-us/personal/ways-t...

RuPay card currently working with Banks to open MOTO transaction: https://www.desidime.com/discussions/rupay-card...

contactless feature also dont need pin/otp till 2k. Recently Visa/mastercard told to RBI, Indian Visa/mastercard customers demand to increase the limit to upto 5k.
