Totally agree... Walk is better, unless the person is planning for some competition, I too suffer from asthma.

To help asthma patients who are beginners and may experience muscle weakness and bone pain, a gradual and structured approach to running a 5K is essential. Start with low-intensity activities, such as walking or light jogging, to build endurance without overexerting the lungs. Incorporating a proper warm-up and cool-down routine is crucial; this can include 6-10 minutes of stretching and gentle movements to prepare the body for exercise and to help prevent injury.

Additionally, patients should monitor their asthma symptoms, carry a rescue inhaler, and consult with their doctor to establish an asthma action plan tailored to their needs, ensuring they can manage any flare-ups effectively during their training.

As they progress, patients can gradually increase their running duration and intensity, focusing on short bursts of activity interspersed with walking if necessary. It is also beneficial to identify and avoid triggers such as cold air or high pollen days, which can exacerbate asthma symptoms. Practicing breathing techniques, like diaphragmatic or pursed lip breathing, can further support lung function during exercise.

By following these strategies, asthma patients can safely work towards completing a 5K while improving their overall fitness and respiratory health.

Considering this, I would start them with walking first.  Avoid running for now till they build up muscles. Best option is to consult a   doctor about asthma and consult an Ortho about bone health too before they start with running

If you want to improve your lungs then walk. When you run you use more oxygen as fuel. When you walk you use more fat/energy as fuel. Focus on endurance training.
