govt is always busy in finding ways to take more tax rather than solving issues which create overall growth and long term increase in there revenue

Eventually we will reach a stage where we are given 18% of our income and rest go for tax to fill their coffers. I wouldn’t mind coughing up taxes if it’s reflected upon in terms of development but sadly we neither witness any good happening in terms of development nor do we pay less tax.

The excuse of taxes for vaccines.. I mean some of these learned scholars in high places sure got their bhindis in a bunch.. During economic slow downs unless you lower taxes and also interest rates, it will take far far longer for any kind of recovery rather than a death spiral.. Raising taxes is a short term scheme only, it lower productivity and the intake will drop like a rock when no one has money to buy and profits are non existent. Right now business are working on saved capital.. How long can this go on? I dont think anyone is making profits in the country except the government and those profits used to build their own infrastructure in Europe and the US and maybe Dubai..

The Centre is likely to bear the cost of vaccination, although distribution, manpower training and logistics are being handled by the states. COVID-19 cess will allow the government to quickly generate funds as opposed to raising taxes!
Still a bad idea tho

Still better than the highest slab of 97% tax rate in socialist 70s.
https://www.orfonline.org/expert-speak/43040-70...

In her 28 February 1970 Union Budget speech, then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, who also held the Finance Minister’s office, increased the marginal tax rate by 11 percentage points to 93.5 percent on all incomes above Rs. 200,000. This meant that for every Rs. 100 earned above Rs. 200,000, a citizen could take home just Rs. 6.50. When a surcharge of 15 percent was taken into account, the highest marginal rate rose to 97.5 percent.

2 lakh in 1973 is approx 71 lakh today.

Well in europe and those countries taxes are very high. But they get benefits from that. Including like 2.5k every month for not working. And many other benefits.. Add in sales tax and such and it gets over 80%.. Even in the US it ends up over 70% in the end with double taxation and such. The only way to pay lower taxes is to own a home which is great since then the government knows where you are and can take it away if you ever get upitty..

And once there is a tax, it never goes away.. The funds gets used for many other things like buying Gold bars and such decorative ornaments to hang in ones home..

With due respect to PM, this govt don’t seem to have any economic agenda. Everything is done in knee and jerk fashion. Absolute lack of long term economic vision. This stems from the fact that economic experts don’t have much say in policymaking !

This government is business friendly.. Only their own though.. How to bring in US$ the fastest way and the most any which way.. Problem is only connected people can take advantage of it. Basically means enslaving the rest of the population who are not intelligent enough to figure that out.

Stop assuming things on your own, I just posted a fact as a reply to someone exclaiming he might have to pay 82% tax that there had been tax rates even much higher than that in the past. Perhaps follow your own advice & stop looking everything from the prism of politics. rolleyes

In Europe there are social benefits like you said but in US the prices are already so low that even after such high taxes many items cost 30-40% cheaper there when compared to overseas prices especially in developing countries like India with inefficient manufacturing base & high taxes.

I am always surprised that prices for most things in the US are cheaper than anywhere else even though they have very high service charges and labor costs. I remember buying an indoor AC for like $80.. You put it in the fire place and it works.. Before I would order from amazon which even with postage and taxes would end up being lower than buying it in india. But that changed in 2015.

You must agree that Chamcha don’t look at current situations.

Is cess a new type of tax and only introduced by current Govt?

UPA imposed cess even without pandemic.

In India less number of people are paying direct taxes.
Covid treatment is given free of cost including food and some cloths. Govt giving Fabiflu etc costly medicine free of cost. Remdesivir etc injections are given free of cost.
and now free vaccine will be given. purchase and distribution will be done without money?
From where money will come?
If any one remember that chamcha’s puppet PM once told on TV that “पैसे पेड़ पर नहीं उगते” ?
We are not oil or mineral rich country that money will come from natural resources.
there two options:
impose new tax like Covid cess
or
reduce budget from other part (ex. education, defence, agriculture etc)

If money is the problem then :
1.what is the need to build new parliament or new houses of top bosses?
2.what is the need to spend 3000-4000cr on building statues ..which is not helpful to any poor in this country?
3.What is the need to spend croces of rupees on advertising on which whole media channels runs?

A poor don’t need subsidies, it need job and work ..which govt don’t give instead it giver 5 kg of wheat thats it …and be happy ..

A employed person pays [60% of direct+inderct taxes ] without even getting anything ..The main road outside my house itself is full of pootholes ..what to talk of others

1. I think that question was already asked in parliament and answer for the same also given. you should refer that.

2. Statue of Unity cost was around 3000cr. you should go there and ask people nearby that area about situation before Statue of Unity and now. you will get answer yourself.
I visited there before 12yrs, 2yr before Statue of Unity plan declared and just before Statue of Unity inauguration. There is drastic change in economy there.
It is not like some king built his statue just for hobby.
It became tourist spot now. Thousands of people getting direct jobs and increasing very fast. hundres of nearby villege and town got good roads.
That plan is far better than giving subsidy.

3. All parties including Congi,AAP,SP,BSP etc are also giving advertising it is not only BJP.

Current Govt giving 5kg wheat or any money whatever giving going properway to the poor unlike only on paper on chamcha’s govt.

whatever tax employed person paying, are all introduced by current govt?
for pothole outside of you house, you should complain to corporator (belong to any party) not central Govt.

Yes. Pay more taxes so that money can be given to free people like protesting in the name of farm bill.

Another reason for tax increase is-
( only 1.5 crore (1.46 crore, to be precise) Indians pay income tax. That is just a little over 1% of India’s population and only 1.6% of the country’s adult (over 20 years) population.

Increase in taxes hurt the honest taxpayer most especially when we know someone who earns more than us and don’t pay any tax smiling_imp

The problem is of motivation, people don’t feel that they get what they pay for.
Speaking practically, who cares if the government gives someone free cylinder, or food out of the tax he pays (don’t take this emotionally)
And the other ways in which money is spent
