Paji what exactly do personal accident cover, cover? Hospitalization or only if person goes away? Is it possible to buy standalone personal accident covers from insurers? Is there any waiting period or something there? Afaik debit cards also provide it but with many conditions like xx transactions of atleast yy amount should be there in the provided timeframe. + @getready @guest_999 @Ramta_Jogi @atx88 @LordGane @Jarvis.-.

Personal Accident policy = Death OR major disability only. No hospitalization cover.
- Also, full amount is payable in one go in either of above cases.
- Usually there is no waiting period for accident policies.
- You can buy PA cover on your own as well directly from insurer, or also from 3rd party agents like PhonePe etc, but policy will be underwritten by some actual insurer only.

PS: If buying via cc, do confirm whether the policy will remain or not in case you cease to be card or bank customer. Usually, since these are 'group policies', you won't be able to renew if you cease to be bank customer. But I've also seen some instances where the policy is allowed to be renewed by the insurer. So do confirm beforehand.

Think logically, how can accident has a waiting period. Do you get a notice from "above" that you are going to get into accident in next "X" days? For everything else just go to any insurer website & search for accident cover policies on their site to see their T&C.

PA policies are of fixed benefit depending on  pre defined criticality e.g. loss of one hand, paralysis, death, temporary/permanent disablement, loss of one or two eyes/ears etc. as a result of accident. The amount for each is mentioned in policy copy. Some may cover accidental death benefit also but usually don't cover hospitalization expenses like health insurance policies do. Some cover fire accidents/burns also.

You can buy stand alone policies or as a part of rider along with life insurance. Some banks like SBI, DIGI DBS also provide group PA insurance.

No such condition anywhere, you are confusing some other condition(like min X amt/no. of txn in previous 30 days of accident etc).

80D only for medical/health insurance policies, accident insurance policies have no tax benefits anywhere so many ppl take accident rider/addon with their existing health insurance policy.

HDFC life, max life, icici, sundaram etc sell those. Majorly look in life insurance not health insurance websites for these. No income tax benefit. But some finance departments in companies while submitting proofs consider it for 80C benefit mistakenly but as per rules it's not valid.

yes bhai, you can buy it directly from insurers, but not always from their website or online. I've noticed that some insurers like TATA AIG & Bajaj Allianz do have PA policies, but do not offer them online separately, I think you need to call them and ask for plans. All insurers offering health/term insurance do not offer PA policy, so you can first check list on this policybazaar link to find which all insurers offer.

And no, personal accident policy is NOT covered under 80d.
