Beware !! Airtel retailers creating wallet to unknown numbers without consent to earn commission, one of my friend tried signing up for airtel wallet account using his aadhaar card but he got account already exist error, i seen many retailers who are selling sim creating wallets of the users with same aadhaar card and chortel supports them by not revealing their numbers,

If someone signed up using your details you cannot gain access to that account ever your aadhar details once gone in fraudsters hand is gone forever, Original holder of aadhaar card will remain helpless no way to unlink aadhaar from scammers account,

Need to raise this serious issue with RBI Airtel has messed up with customers details, aadhar owner should be able to know the running wallet account details, by authenticating through biometrics or otp, Airtel will be forced to do something if they get danda from RBI

This is the Only Reason I dont give my Docs like Aadhar and PAN everywhere, Freecharge is asking for PAN (Full KYC) but if I make merchant payment by Freecharge wallet then it automatically adds money then we dont need to upgrade to full KYC same applies to other wallets too.

Amazon, Freecharge, OLA Money, etc many other Wallet companies asked for FULL KYC But I am concerned because all are having Pay Later or BNPL Services so you never know when they will open your Pay Later with these services and as you already have provided them with your PAN its kind of dangerous thing!

Updated to full KYC for Amazon 3 years back. They do not auto-activate or force BNPL.
Freecharge got auto updated to full KYC as same mobile no is mapped to Axis savings A/c. Again, till date they have not auto activated or forced BNPL.
Mobikwik - deleted app after their fraudulant attempts to trick activation of BNPL through KYC.
Ola - not updated so far.

Instead of giving permission to random shopkeepers to tie up with airtel to issue new connection airtel should directly open new airtel store and hire employees give job security and salary comparable to bsnl/mtnl and no sales target to push postpaid connection to avoid this situations

@drupal  Thanks for the heads up! Yes,such issues should be escalated to the RBI and UIDAI.
There is no need to share your Aadhaar number,we can use Virtual ID instead to be on the safe side.I always use virtual ID.One thing I don't understand is how do they create wallet without OTP authentication.😬Guess Chortel is working hand in gloves with these thugs.

They get 50 Rs. commission for creating airtel wallet, and 40 cashback on first transaction, one of the retailer told me that they create paytm accounts using biometrics and refer gpay using their referral signup gpay on new sim owner's behalf and earn gpay referral bonus if person looks ganwaar or not tech savvy  they fool customers like this

There's a valid reason why I hate frequent SIM changers... and most of these things happen to them statistically.

There are people who go there for port in, anyone who is not extra vigilant can be victim, Many people who can't afford 1 month recharge plan often buy a sim card at Rs.60-70 with unlimited data and calls for one month, these people are easy target of these retailers, they not only own their wallets they earn commission+cashback

100 Airtel wallets 50+40*100=9000 rupees

I know this is a big problem. But if you search thoroughly in DD, you'll come across quite a few comments of Dimers giving advice to other Dimers to give random PAN/Aadhaar/DL/EPID nos., wherever Aadhaar OTP is not required. And they proudly stated that they are doing the same too. So, the problem starts from us, the people. Ps. I never heeded any such advice, and preferred to lose the few extra benefits I could have earned.

@drupal  Agreed bro, everyone is not that aware but we can do our part and spread the word and make family members, friends, relatives and more and more people aware about it.In your original post, you can include important inputs given by various dimers. It will help people to prevent such frauds.

Few tips to prevent Aadhaar misuse/fraud :

Always use either VID (Virtual ID) or Masked Aadhaar Card.

VID is a temporary 16-digit random number mapped with the Aadhaar number. VID can be used in lieu of Aadhaar number whenever authentication or e-KYC services are performed.

https://www.zeebiz.com/personal-finance/news-aa...

Download Masked Aadhaar Card and use it if required for KYC purpose. In Masked Aadhaar Card first 8 digits of Aadhaar number are masked like “xxxx-xxxx” and only last 4 digits of the Aadhaar Number are visible.

https://www.moneycontrol.com/news/trends/curren...

https://cleartax.in/s/masked-aadhaar...ai

We can lock and temporarily unlock biometrics using Aadhaar locking/unlocking service.

https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/lock-unlock-a...ar

“mAadhaar app” can also be used to perform these tasks though it’s as horrendous as any other ”Sarkari (Govt) app/service” and works in a typical Sarkari manner of working.

Few things to know :

Under the PML Rules Aadhaar is one of the officially valid documents accepted for opening bank account and the bank is required to do other due diligence for banking transaction or KYC. If at all some fraudster tries to open bank account using Aadhaar and bank doensn’t carry any due diligence then in such case an Aadhaar holder cannot be held responsible for bank’s fault. It is just like if some fraudster opens a bank account by presenting someone else’s Voter card/Ration card, it is the bank that would be held responsible not the voter or ration card holder.

Aadhaar authentication can be performed for availing benefits, services and benefits falling under Section 7 of the Aadhaar Act, 2016 and if the purpose for which Aadhaar authentication is intended to be used is either backed by law made by parliament or is in the State interest. The verification of Aadhaar can be done offline through QR code available on the physical Aadhaar copy. If any agency does not follow these best practices, then that agency will be fully responsible for situations or losses arising out of possible misuse or impersonation. An Aadhaar holder is not responsible for the wrongful act of or by any agency.

Under the Aadhaar Act, 2016 stringent penalties, including fines and imprisonment are provided whenever a person misuses your Aadhaar number or tries to cause any harm to you.

Thanks for sharing this tho some things are still a bit unclear. It's even worse to the older generation who never grew up with cellphone/computer and thus many are helpless.

Instead of showing stupidity openly, ask someone or try to get some knowledge !

How you decided that my method involve "unauthorized credentials" ?

First, there is no concept of OFFICIAL retailer ! 😂

Area distributor and/or area store of the particular telecom company issues retailer id to anyone who wants it after taking his/her proper documents.

My friend has obtained retailer id/s issued by area distributor/s after submitting all required documents.

Any retailer can add any person as an agent after taking required documents from that person. Using these documents, retailer creates an agent id and then that person receives agent id/username and password on his/her mobile. He can then use this id and password to login to retailer app and activate new sim/port/mnp.
