Someone calls me and claims to be from amazon.in, conveying I have won free raffle gift on a recent purchase for shopping at amazon.in

Giving an option to choose between 5 items, AC, Refrigerator, TV, Iphone, laptop as a free gift for winning the raffle..

The caller conveys the details of the item purchased which won the raffle and the purchase date, also confirms your correct name, address and phone number from their side.

They somehow gain access to these non-financial information ( the purchase date, purchased item, your name, address and phone number) correctly through their channels.

My item is actually still in transit and has been purchased from cloudtail ( not even a 3rd party seller).

They asks you to add your chosen gift from the list of AC / Refrigerator / TV / Iphone / Laptop to the amazon app basket.

At this stage they informs you about their T&C, as per the T&C you will also need to buy something for 5k at checkout so they can bundle your expensive gift in the basket for free on checkout.

This is where they will prompt you, that if you do not need anything now, you can buy an amazon egift card for 5k now, which you can use it later within 1 year.

The scam act is very convincing until this stage, A very helpful employee assisting you patiently to claim your free gift.

This is where the climax starts, since this is a gift offer you cannot checkout your amazon basket directly on the amazon app, BUT you have to use pay using googlepay, amazonpay or other wallets. For which further instructions will be provided to you.

I decided to end the show right here.

The information they have access to, is what is on the mailing slip of you amazon packaging in transit ( shipped with amazon), I can only assume that somewhere in the transportation channels, the details on the mailing slip is being breached.

Anyone else here had a similar experience?

Good to know I am not the only one being targeted.

Where do you think they get access to your correct purchase details? Transportation channels or somewhere else?

Known scam ( Personal Info leak via Shipping partners.. its best to keep a spare number just for the online orders )
Scammers used to target PayTm, Shopclues users before this way but now they’re targeting Amazon, Flipkart users
^^ More people are into these raffles from Amazon,Flipkart,Cred…so even they fail with one or two, there’s gonna be someone ready to believe their scam story

PS: If you haven’t received any communication from Amazon/Flipkart via Email ( Official IDs )..then consider it to be a scam
// SMS Sender ID can be spoofed //

Many times I have also received these calls on my main mobile number. I mostly order from other accounts having different mobile numbers (due offers) but in shipping details I give my main mobile number as its convenient for me . So when I get these calls I instantly know its a fake call as they always call on shipping address mobile number.
But one thing is that how they get hold of the shipping address and mobile number? It may be that delivery partner or third party sellers are hand in gloves with fraudsters.

This is how my amazon delivery package, that the scammers got my amazon order information from arrived at the time of delivery. Part of the mailing slip has been torn away just leaving the receivers address and a AWB bar code for scanning.

I referred to the mailing slip of the the other amazon packages I received. The part of the mailing slip that has been torn away contains the printed summary about the item inside, the AWB tracking number and QR codes.

As I suspected in my original post when I received the call from the scammers, the information about my order which the scammers got hold of has been leaked while in the care of amazon transportation service. The part of the mailing slip torn away from the packages in transit is then handed over by the insiders in the transportation chain to the scammer’s call center.

Summary of Item inside the packet has been got hold of from the physical mailing slip and someone who has access to the Amazon Transportation department barcode database scans the AWB Tracking code and gets hold of the name, address and phone number of the amazon customer.

In all my order mailing slip was intact, may be in transit they scan data and use it to scam.
Only way to be secure is to crosscheck any communication through official channels.
