Naah, not really. Even French hacker Elliot Alderson could do all was spoof his location to know number of ill people around some other location. That’s it. To sensationalize his ‘hack’, he spoofed location around PMO and said there are 5 people ill near PMO. Who 5, can’t be known! Their exact location? Can’t be known as well.

Also, data in any person’s phone is only uploaded if he/she tests positive or when he/she gives a self assessment test, otherwise user’s data remain on user’s phone only and deleted after 30 days if no contact with corona +ve person is made.

I’ve to say its a pretty good app. More people should install it make it useful at full potential. Don’t fall prey to senseless rumours. Facebook, Google, etc already have much more data about you without even telling or asking from you.

I agree Privacy is really a myth. But what if the govt maybe misusing this info for party gains? What if they are snooping you, who are you meeting or talking to..

Hahahahahhaha.

Dude, first see the permissions that the app is asking for.
In Android, it does NOT ask for your contacts permission or telephone (phone state). Therefore it can NOT know whom you’re talking to. It is also not asking for permission to record audio.

Secondly, the location data stored in mostly on your device only. It does not upload data to any server in realtime, hence using this app, tracing is not possible like they show in movies. And suppose you go out in market or restaurant, how exactly will the app know whom exactly you met in market? Will it make the phone fly out of your pocket and capture your photo? There will mostly be many people around you, for how many random people will they track GPS data?

Also, in modern OS, when any app uses GPS to get your location in background, you get that notification clearly in notification bar stating which app is trying to get your location in background. Just like Google FindDevice app notifies the other device when you try to track them. If this thing happens, people will automatically know they’re being tracked, take screenshot and file case against govt for using the app for other than intended purposes.

Lastly, if govt really wants to track people, it’ll use better ways that can assure tracking of majority of people. This app cannot assure that. I mean, out of 135 crore people, only 7% people have this app. And all of them do not keep their WiFi + BT on everytime for battery conservation. So how will tracking be done then? That idea itself fails here. Then again, many people like Jamatis, BJP hating, wokes, etc. won’t install the app in the first place itself. Moreover, as Covid fades, more & more people will uninstall this application because this application always sits in notification bar, and hence is always in the face. I really do not think any govt can ever use this extremely low turnout, low reliability, high maintenance & risky product for any purpose. That’s just viability factor. Govt already has arrangement & equipment to track anyone. App or no app, smartphone or basic phone, they can always track you by just your phone number using signal triangulation.

Most importantly, we shouldn’t go for fear based hypothesis like what if this or that… or what if this happens or that happens… Until there is any actual evidence of something actually happening, its all a hogwash to fool gullible people.

Right. App or no app. They can track us anyhow.
Hope for the best.
