Today I visited a restaurant where ₹20 Bisleri water was charged for ₹55. When I asked for clarification from manager, he said, this is our charge. You have to pay.
So, how & where to complain about this ?

Restaurants are legally allowed to do this
Hotels and restaurants can continue to sell packaged mineral water bottles above ‘MRP’ rates as the Supreme Court has observed that no prevailing law prevents such a sale.

Can a hotel or a restaurant charge for a bottle of drinking water more than the maximum retail price marked on the container?
》》》The answer is yes.《《《
In a major blow to consumers, the Supreme Court on Tuesday held that hotels and restaurants are not bound by the maximum retail price (MRP) when they sell bottled mineral water and packaged food items.
The court rejected the government’s argument that overcharging for pre-packed or packaged products was an offence under the Legal Metrology Act, which attracts a fine of Rs 25,000 or a jail term, according to ET.
A bench headed by Justice Rohinton Nariman said the provisions of the law will not apply to hotels and restaurants, and these establishments cannot be prosecuted for selling such items above the MRP.
“It is not a case of simple sale. Nobody goes to a hotel to buy or take away a bottle of mineral water,” the bench observed, hearing a petition by the Hotels and Restaurant Association of India.
Earlier, in its affidavit in response to a petition filed by the Federation of Hotel and Restaurant Associations of India (FHRAI), the Ministry of Consumer Affairs said that overcharging for pre-packed or prepackaged products was an offence under the Legal Metrology Act.
“Sale of packaged water over MRP by hotels and restaurants may have implications regarding tax evasion as a bottle purchased by a hotel at cost price, which should be sold at MRP or less, is being sold at much higher prices, leading to possible loss of additional revenue to the government in the form of service tax or excise duty etcetera,” the government had said.
》》》Consumer complains《《《
The sale of bottled drinking water above the MRP has been a subject of intense debate since 2003 when the hoteliers’ association approached the Delhi High Court challenging penal provisions of the law.
The high court ruled in 2007 that Delhi’s hotels and restaurants cannot sell bottled mineral water above the MRP.
Earlier this year, Union Minister of Food and Consumer Affairs, Ram Vilas Paswan tweeted about receiving various complaints on different prices charged for packaged water in different places. Many grievances about companies that printed prices higher than the MRPs at places like hotels and airports were lodged.
The Ministry has demanded justification from such companies for their offences. “Mineral water bottle will be available at the same rate at airports, hotels and malls,” he tweeted. It has been directed that the selling price should be standardised across airports, hotels, malls, and any other retail outlets.
Penalties for Offenders
In his statement of October 2016, during World’s Standard Day, Minister had urged consumers to lodge a complain if packaged drinking water is sold above MRP at any location including hotels, cinemas and airports. The minister further commented with reference to common consumer experiences at such locations, where packaged water was often sold at 10-20% higher than MRP. In fact, some cases of no MRP mentioned on the bottle, have also been reported. Section 36 of Legal Metrology Act states anyone involved in the sales, distribution or delivery of any pre-packaged commodity that does not conform to the declarations on the package is punishable by law with a fine of up to Rs. 25,000 for the first offence.
The fine for the second offence can go up to Rs. 50,000. Further, subsequent offences will be penalised with fines up to Rs one lakh, or one-year imprisonment, or both.

No, I didn't enquire about the pricing, generally everywhere its always been quoted ₹20 for Bisleri.
It's simpl don't go to restaurant and save money
They should take serving charge(room/table) service separately but not mix(mess) up with MRP and also give us option to pick up bottle at mrp
at least for water they should do as it hurts to 3x mrp
Any chance of this getting listed on the bourses?

How will a hotel/restaurant put a service charge of Rs. 30 for water bottle with Rs.20 mrp on a proper gst bill when other food items in the order don't have such charge? SC decision was clear, one pay for service/facilities offered by hotel/restaurant so mrp concept not applicable at all as one should not expect to buy anything at mrp while sitting on a comfortable chair in a AC environment while being served by a waiter. They should take serving charge(room/table) service separately but not mix(mess) up with MRP and also give us option to pick up bottle at mrp

M not sure if this is true.
I think they can have higher mrp product, like we have in cinema hall, their mrp is different, in that way only they can charge you higher (ex, they sell bisleri which having 50₹ ) but they are not allowed to charge 50₹ mrp 20.

Refer this post. It is supreme court ruling that hotels can charge people (more than MRP) for pre-packaged items. There's no point in including the MRP reference when the selling price is same as MRP on the bottle

Yes. They have different with high MRP, also mentioned specially packaged, not to be sold to Retail.

Well they could have served it in some fancy glass with some fancy name atleast then we might have thought that it's not the same thing available outside just like they do with the softdrinks 😜
Once upon a time we had Pyaus for offering free water to everyone, people got educated now with leakage in brain and highly trust bottled water and pay for it , then they go to hotels and there also they dont want that free water given by hotels but want branded bottled water and pay there also for it ,
when already paying for what is available for free than pay more and Feel the Premium Class Status .

I don't have any problem to pay ₹100 for a water bottle. But at least the price should be mentioned as MRP on the bottle. Many times I have bought water for ₹50-100 at the airport and the movie theatre.
The best way to make both parties happy is to set a cap on billing of packaged items - like maximum 1.5X of MRP...
@kool ... bade aadmi ho bhai, Maurya mei khane gaye the.
But on the other hand, it's weird they did this with packaged water of other company. Most of the cafes and restaurants I've seen, they do the same thing but at least with their own packaging and charge as they wish.

How do You know maurya 👀
And yes, that's what I am saying they should use their own packaged water with higher MRP.
Just leave negative review in Google maps for the restaurant. Thats the maximum you can do as revenge.

I am with you and others, on this point.
But sadly, the top court of the country too wants to keep an entirely unique interpretation of the law and applicability of the law.

Sachhi bhai, instead of all this MBA or other things that took time off your 32-34 years.. you could have stepped into 🙇🏻♂️uncleji's😇🥺 shoes.
He was a lawyer, hai na?
Wish you too had done similar studies and taken up that profession.

Nonetheless, life has plans of its own.
May 🙇🏻♂️Almighty bless you with peace, contentment, right guidance, good health, happiness.🤍💙

A] Why have revenge in heart.
.
B] It is a star rated property of a fairly successful company/ group. Reviews on TripAdvisor too may not bother the company.
.
C] We (the public) do not directly appoint the judges, but we do choose the highest level of scoundrels from amongst us.. and then send those 700-800 rascals to the parliament. (Yes, I know that the decision of the upper house membership is not directly in the hands of the citizens. But that is besides the point here).
.
Why cannot we think on the lines of having 'less scoundrel' law makers?
Why shouldn't we rather take it upon ourselves.. to ensure that those 🐖law makers🐗 amend, update the laws or make new ones.. such ..that the law leaves NO SCOPE for giving such leeway for such anti-consumer politics?
u got one litre for Rs. 55..... now a days haldiram they will give their own brand name packed drinking water Rs. 50 for 250ml.... sookha gala geela krne k liye
